Sure, the HD650's are a better headphone than the TMA-1's, but they are not hundreds of dollars better. The reason I say hundreds is because the HD650's require decent amplification

the bass I found to be different. I had issues with it as well, but for me it was not enough perceived impact, not enough quantity, and the tone wasn't right. Yes it's fast & dynamic, but for some reason it doesn't feel like it hits hard

The individual characteristics are excellent, but when combined, produce a sound that is greater than the sum of the parts.  It seems like I’ve found my soul mate, er, I mean head mate.

I am not saying the 650's sounded bad. They sounded very good. Just not $500 worth of great, and not even close to my bookshelf speakers. That was the deal breaker for me.

The bass is definitely better, and there is alot more detail available, but the balance and sound signature remains almost identical. For me that's just bonus though, I think its definitely in last 10% territory. I don't regret the purchase at all.

I think the HD650s are worth the $300-350USD asking price, so at $205...that's ridiculous value for your money. Enjoy those phones, I haven't heard anything better (for overall sound).

I don't like headphones in the place of my audiophile quality speakers, and the biggest deal breaker to me was when compared dollar for dollar.

The HD650 is wonderful, but no headphone is perfect for all listeners since tastes vary widely. As much as I love the HD650, I listen to the Woodied Beyer DT770 more.

I just got my HD 650's in the mail today and I am returning them. They just aren't THAT much better then these little rinky dink PX100's that I bought a long time ago...The HD 650's are $350 headphones that required me to buy a Fiio E9 just to properly power

I never took the foam off, and still the Senn to me was also never fatiguing or veiled, though certainly it's not an in-your-face presentation. To me the HD650 also gives the impression of listening to speakers.

The HD650's were only slightly more detailed then the PX100's (I had to try hard to hear it) and they were able to give more impact in the midbass/bass region. But other then that, they sound practically the same. Definitely not hundreds of dollars+amp worth difference between the two.

Overall, I find the Sennheiser HD650s completely worthy of their popularity…I may very well end up owning a pair myself eventually.

The seem to match my own hearing quite well.  They don't get in the way of the music and just let you listen and relax.

I agree, the HD650 is greater than the sum of its parts. It produces something unquantifiable that taps into the raw emotion of the music. It blankets and smothers you in it, and makes other listening experiences somewhat sterile in comparison.

I've had my HD650 for about a week now, and right now, it is the main reason why I look forward to going to work.

I originally started with the HD202s, moved to the 555, and then HD650. Noticed a huge jump in presentation and overall detail between all of them. I will say, though, once you start hitting the $250-300 mark, diminishing returns start to kick in.

I love my Senn's and cant speak higly enough about the great resolution that these cans display.

Head-Fi▲ recommend

the HD650 definitely qualifies as a "world class" headphone in that setup, to my ears anyway.

I can't believe how close your words mirror my thoughts on these cans. I've been using the HD650's for about 4-5 months now, and the HD580's 1.5 years prior. Two things I also had trouble describing was the upper treble region and the so called "veil", or lack thereof

The soundstage blew me away. The response blew me away. I've listened to records like Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not over 100 times and I heard things that I've never heard before, I heard clear details that I never knew existed before.

I also bought a pair HD-650 recently and am very pleased with them.

Head-Fi▲ recommend

That is the general conclusion I made with these brilliant cans.

Head-Fi▲ recommend

That said, enjoy your HD650s. I am enjoying mine.

As far as 'how they sound'?  Simply phenomenal.

i love my hd 650s, will rebuy them very soon as the ones i have right now aren't in very good shape anymore ( will sell them soon). the sound is a little too laid back on some songs and the hd 650s isn't super detailed like the grado or akgs, however, the warmth and smoothness and amazing bass response as well as generally well balanced sound makes them grea
