In owners' own words

They have performed better than my Curado(s) and significantly better than my SLX.

I prefer my Tatula sv tw over my SLX DC in every way other than casting distance.

Didn’t realize how small the slx dc XT was gonna be

Honestly my Abu Revo4x performs better than the SLX

Setup quirks & things to watch for

Not complaints — practical notes from owners that didn't affect the score.

The SLX will work better for lighter lures as it's a lighter reel and has a shallower spool. Lighter rotation and such with lighter lines. Lures around 8-20g would work great on these.

I have a cashion icon that slings 1/8oz rooster tails and heavier chatter baits but I have to cast gentle and let my reel do most of the work if I’m trying to throw a 1/16oz rooster tail.

I would get something with MGL spool. It can be SLX, it can be a Curado, both are great. 70 size if you are more finess oriented, 150 size for more all-around usage.

SLX and SLX DC are some of the few Shimano under $200. One thing to consider before purchase is what size baitcaster. They range from size 50 to 400 for bass (that size nomenclature is not an industry standard either).

But these adjustments are much worth the uptick in price, plus I hink they throw an extra bearing in. Just get a Daiwa Tatula anything and it will be much smoother and more controlled and feel better than either of these.

SLX will be great. I use a lot of straight flouro, 6lb seagaur sounds like it’d fit your bill very well.

I've used both, and the quality difference is easy to sell as soon as you pick the reel up

I do not own either of these reels so can’t make a true recommendation but have read about them. If you can get one you should buy the JDM version of the SLX DC XT with the IDC-5 braking system. It is superior to the SLX DC’s IDC-4. Nevertheless both should serve you well.
