Me personally I prefer the original Tatula or the Tatula elite. I hate the SV series as it seems to rob me of a lot of distance on my cast and or require more effort to get the same distance.

The older model is a tank going on seven years old. The newer models are good, but not the quality of the older model. Watch the thumb bar on the newer models. They tend to want to wiggle around after some use.

I haven’t used the Shimano but the Tatulas are great reels. I have 3 Type Rs and will be getting an SV TWS for my next rod. They just fit my hand well and I’ve been really pleased with them so far.

The newer version (spider on the side plate) I have had multiple issues with drag and brakes not working properly.

I have both reels and for someone just starting out the Diawa SV TW can be set up where you can hardly get it to backlash and still get some distance out of it. The DC is also a good reel to start out with.

they feel a little clunky in comparison to my 13 fishing concept A's. Not clunky as in junky just more play in them than the 13 fishing reels. The spools don't spin for not even close to as long as the spools in the 13 fishing reels.

The SV Tat is a nice reel but feels way over braked to me.

I have a Tatula SV and it is a very nice reel and very versatile, but I think the "ease of use" (easy brake adjustments/no backlashes) comes at the cost of some distance compared to my Curados (at least for me).

SV TW or SV TWS will be the most versatile reel you own. Where it will really pick up is when you are casting into the wind, or light baits

Have had a pile of them with some being back to when they first came out. They are true workhirses. Still perform great despite heavy use.

they are all great reels. I prefer them over my Lews bb1 or bb2. I buy all my reels on amazon way better deals. u won't regret the Daiwa

My girlfriend had no baitcasting experience and she learned on the Tatula SV TWS with no problems, casting that is.

I bought my wife a Daiwa Tatula SV and tricked it out with a bunch of pink aftermarket parts....she loves it!

The Type R's are very solid reels. I pretty much consider them THE BEST reel for the money right now.

I got her a tatula sv and she learned to use it almost instantly. No experience with the Shimano.

The Tatula CT/R line is a solid reel but it doesn't have the tightest handle tolerances.

I have the previous version Tatula Ct (black & red) and I think it’s an excellent reel

I'm using the Tatula R and an older Zillion Coastal and they are as good as it gets

I used a TATULA quite a while ago.. it has taken me a little while to do it, but now that's all I use. I found a local shop that would trade reels and sell the traded in ones. He handled new TATULA reels... That's it for me. I love them. You will not believe the distance.

On spinners I'm using Daiwa Tatula Elite. Shimano Vanford is right there with it.

I have the same version. Nothing bad about this reel. Perform really well.

BBCBoards▲ recommend

The Tatula SV is a fantastic reel for skipping baits, pitching baits, and is also great for lighter weight lures. The DC reels are not as good with light weight baits but from my experience they are better at casting into the wind and also getting more casting distance than the Tatula SV.

I have ct's with stock bearings that will out cast curados.

I too have the previous version and it’s a great reel!
