Daiwa Tatula

Based on 169 comments across 4 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly call the Tatula the easiest baitcaster to learn on, with a smooth cast and the T-Wing braking that makes backlashes rare even for beginners, plus durability that stretches into 5-10 years of hard use. The most common complaints are the external dials and tension knob, which some find fiddly or prone to drifting while casting, and a handful of owners report theirs going loud or rough over time. A few also feel it gets clearly outclassed by a Zillion or Curado once you're paying near the same money.

90% of 169 verified owners recommend the Daiwa Tatula.

I recently got the new 2025 Daiwa Tatula and I love it but my only complaint is how compact everything is and how it’s harder for me to turn the tension knob on it than like my curado dc.

I tend to backlash every once in a while on my Tatula 300 since the spool isn't tuned for braid. I lost a $60 dollar glide bait over the weekend from a very bad backlash.

A Daiwa Tatula SV T Wing is lb for lb $ for $ the best baitcasting reel you can buy, and i'ts in your budget at $199.99.

I've used a whole slew reels from varying companies and enjoyed my original Mach Crush better than my Daiwa Tatula 100 and SV (original SV, can't cmment on the new SV).

The Daiwa is going to cost more but is easier to set up and adjust when changing lures. Plus, the Daiwa is harder to backlash. The Tatula 150 is good.

I have 2 Piscifun Torrents, which in all honesty, I don't use every time I go out, but I like them better than the Daiwa Tatula I had for a season.

The only design major issue I’ve noticed after several reels of this platform is the thumb bar mechanism which sometimes doesn’t return normally.

Defnitely a Daiwa Tatula! I have one too! It was my first baitcasting reel too and it is a joy to use!

I used to run a daiwa tatula but with the dial on the side it would constantly move when i would cast or reel in a fish.

That being said I hated my Daiwa tatula. I preferred the Lews that I had so I usually only buy shimano or lews reels.

Just picked up my first baitcatser and went with the Daiwa Tatula. I only birdnested due to not knowing to adjust the tensioner for the spool. As long as your side casting and quick to thumb it before smacking the water you’ll be a natural

So my overall recommendation would be the CT at your price point.

My Revo does exactly everything my Tatula does and equally as well in every aspect that matters....for half the price.

I have a Daiwa Tatula that’s basically just a paperweight now, I’ll never make that mistake again.

I have a Medium heavy fenwick hmg with a daiwa tatula 200 reel and I like it. First baitcasting set up ive had so not a lot to compare it to but its high quality

I gave it another shot with a used Daiwa Tatula and I found the daiwa’s to be very user friendly. I’ve even taught a few of my buddies baitcasting on daiwa’s and they agreed it was very intuitive when casting

The Tatula, which costs almost twice as much the LFS, barely performs better.

It is the same as using my daiwa tatula I bought a few months after. I don’t think the dc is that big of a difference.

I debated a long time between Daiwa and Shimano. Ended up going to cabelas so i could see and handle both. I ended up going with the Daiwa because it fit my hand size better

The drag is smooth and predictable (unlike the Daiwa Tatula)

I like them far far more than my daiwa tatula

i tried the daiwa tatula ct 165$ reel, it was the first reel i liked. Used it for 1 summer, then it sounded awful. Traded it in, and spent extra money to get the curado 200 M. havent had an issue with that so far. I also ended picking up a 2023 tatula 100 love that thing. No crappy sounds coming from it so far like the ct.

I use a daiwa tatula 300 sw ts with 0.32mm line.

you could get something like the Daiwa Tatula TW SV 103, which is basically the same braking and spool system as the higher-priced Zillion reel and it fishes better than my SLX DC IMO
