it will be hot to the touch when moving around. This is not something I bought initially, and regretted, as I had to use an oven mitt in the interim.

It will be the smoothest, most durable, lowest maintenance, best cooking skillet in your kitchen.

Compared to fully-clad stainless steel, aluminum, and copper cookware, cast iron (including Lodge) heats unevenly and slowly.

My observation was that the factory seasoning was a little less nonstick than what I could do on my own but it was very thick and pretty darn tough.

    Definitely a solid, indestructible pan.

I have also noticed that this pre-seasoning can have a tendency to flake off, which I have seen on more than one new piece

When I returned in the spring, the skillet I re-seasoned was fine, but the one that I left original had rusted.

but my work horses (lodge 10.25, flat skillet, and 12 inch) are all resurfaced and amazing.

10,25 is my #1 goto. Just bought a second one because my 12 is heavy, and often I want 2 skillets and a 12 would be too big.

Most of my non-antique cast iron pans are Lodge. They work just fine,

My "daily driver" pan for over a decade has just ben a standard Lodge 10.25". I paid $20 for it and you can still get it for that price.

I just bought a Lodge 10.25 inch skillet yesterday night, and have cooked 4 times with it, all decent successes.

9 years later, only one pot survived from the set but the skillet is still my #1 most used piece of cookware.

This is my 'daily driver'. Just a caution - it is heavy but once you start with cast iron it's hard to stop.

I have one of these and I like using it as much as my le creuset which is literally 10x the price.

My favorite size is the 10.25 inch. It heats up fairly quickly, doesn't take a lot of oil to fry in, it's a great size for pies and the absolute perfect size for turning a pound of ground beef into taco meat. My only real complaint is it's a little cramped for cooking bacon

But honestly I have baked mine in 3 years and it is about as slick as teflon.
