YETI Tundra 45

Based on 43 comments across 2 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly praise the Tundra 45 for multi-day ice retention, with many getting 4-5 days and some a full week while camping, plus a rugged build that survives years of rough use. The most common complaints are that it isn't airtight and will leak if laid on its side, and that a few owners found cheaper coolers held ice just as long. It's a pricey, somewhat heavy cooler, but most feel it earns its reputation as a long-haul, buy-it-for-life choice.

74% of 43 verified owners recommend the YETI Tundra 45.

I have an igloo bmx 52, and tested it against my friends yeti tundra 45. Both held a block of ice for pretty much the same amount of time in the same weather right beside eachother. Keep in mind, the yeti has 7L less dead air space, so should be able to keep cool for longer. It didn't.

Yeti Tundra 45. I keep it in the bed of my truck. I toss ice in it once a week and always have cold drinks and a spot to put leftovers from restaurants.

the Yeti Tundra 45 we tested held ice for 5 full days, but definitely wasn't the best. The Engel, Canyon and Siberian all held ice longer and can be picked up for a fraction of the price.

I have a tundra 45 and it’s heavy and small. It holds ice for days in the sun, but that’s only if you rarely open them and probably goes for any of the high-end coolers.

I have a Yeti tundra 45 as well as a knockoff walmart version too, same size. I use both for camping about 4-5x a year. They both performed similarly until about last year when the walmart one suffered a fall from my tailgate and it's essentially a glorified igloo cooler now. The yeti also fell (dipshit camping buddy was pulling the cord out of the bed an

As an employee we were able to get the tundra 45 and 60 for half cost. They arent worth the extra money. They do keep stuff cold a long time but they melt just as quick as any other. I was using mine as a foot rest 6 feet from my fire while winter camping years back. Melted the whole back of it.

I have a Tundra 45 and I consider it to be the all-around most versatile Yeti hard cooler. It’s got enough space to ice down a lot of stuff, can still be carried by one person if need be and wont take up much more space than a 35 would in a car trunk.

I have a Yeti Tundra 45 and my son has a similar sized Pelican (along with a smaller one). Performance on these has been very similar.

Decided to pull the trigger after a 6 week camping/fly fishing trip where I was living out of my truck and using a Yeti Tundra 45. 60% ice, 30% beer, 10% food. I got sick of ice runs and soggy food.

I've got the Yeti Tundra 45 and its great to use, but kind wish I had just gone ahead and gotten one with wheels on it.

I have the tundra 45 and it’s great. Make sure you put some ice in it a couple days before leaving to precool the interior insulation, helps keep ice longer.

Both the yetis had dust inside and out upon delivery and 1 had cosmetic defects and pitting on the lid.

Using a cooler that can handle long holds, like the Yeti Tundra 45, is the best bet.

I have 2 yeti tundra 45's that I use in my food truck to hold drinks. With constant opening for 10 hours a day I only need to replace the ice every 2 days.

This motivated me to buy my first Yeti, the Tundra 45. That cooler blew my mind for how well it kept ice while we were camping, a full five days.

My yeti holds ice for 5 days IF I line the bottom with frozen water bottles and everything I place in it is either frozen or refrigerated in advance. If you put anything warm in it, your ice time is toast.

My Yeti Tundra 45 will hold a mix of block and loose ice for literally a week, it’s the most amazing thing.

With just a piece of fabric tape stretching across this space, the cooler isn't airtight or leakproof.

As someone who has a yeti and an iceco fridge I would recommend a cooler for dispersed camping

Ice retention for my Tundra 45 is 4 days depending on the circumstances, so size/mass is a major factor.

A flood of leakage when turned its side, but it didn't leak when it was laying top (lid) down.

My yeti tundra 45 is not cold on the surface and it holds ice for 3-4 days before I need to re-ice.

We actually have two now saw size but usually only take one for a weekend camping trip. So I would say about 3 days is what we use it for but there is still ice when we get home.

Yeti Tundra 45. Not having to buy ice at every other gas station is a game changer. Pre chill it and will last at least 3 days before any needs to be added. Spring, fall and winter it’ll hold ice all all week.
