TL;DR
Most owners who've had their Stagg EKG for years praise its long-term reliability, precise PID temperature control (often accurate within a degree), and the smooth gooseneck pour that makes pour-over easier than rivals like Brewista - many say the sleek countertop design and daily performance justify the premium price. But a meaningful minority pushes back hard, centered on a firmware update (1.2.5) that made the kettle glide painfully slowly into its target temperature, turning routine boils into a frustrating multi-minute wait; others report build-quality letdowns like a sticky or rattly dial, a wobbly base, peeling coating, or units that broke within a year or two. A smaller group also flags boil-overs and temperature-sensor drift, and even many happy owners concede the kettle is overpriced for what it fundamentally does.

33% of 109 verified owners recommend the Stagg EKG Pro Gooseneck Electric Kettle, 0.9 Liter, based on real owner verdicts aggregated from Reddit, enthusiast forums, and YouTube.

I have tested my stagg ekg at 10C intervals all the way up to 100 with a freshly calibrated thermapen one and it was constantly -0.5C which is close enough for pourover.

Home-Barista— neutral

I received my Pro yesterday, used four times and I have not experienced the problem. Actually removing the lid when hot was easier than the regular base model, without the rubber ring.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

It's flimsy, the knob on the lid gets loose, the copper contact at the base was not always in contact with the kettle, leading it to showing the temperature while only pretending to boil the water

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I've owned my EKG for less than three years and the temp started going haywire and kettle boils over randomly over the last year.

Reddit▲ recommend

I've found it to be reliable and for those less skilled at controlling flow rate the floor control spout is very helpful. Plus, the 3 year warranty is good.

Reddit— neutral

I have one, I love it and use it daily, but it boils slowly compared to usual UK kettles, and the black coating is coming off. The handle is starting to loosen, too

Home-Barista— neutral

After the kettle is heated, it's extremely hard to get the lid off, bordering on impossible unless you use a whole lot of force. It's a pretty bad design flaw

Reddit▲ recommend

I like my Stagg EKG in green, it looks pretty and it pours well. Build quality feels fine. I had a brewista before and this is miles better.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

fw updating has never really worked correctly on my kettle ever since I bought it few months ago

Reddit▲ recommend

Both are the originals from the day we open over three years ago and are on ~10 hours everyday. Haven't ever had an issue with them!

Reddit— neutral

I sold my Stagg kettle a few years ago, and got a greater goods kettle and it’s just about the same for more than 1/2 than what the Fellow Stagg costs now.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I have had mine replaced twice and still have issues with it. Quality does not match the price.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

The dial gets both sticky and rattly at the same time, it just wasn’t a good UX imho.

Reddit▲ recommend

I’ve had mine for three years and my parents have had theirs much longer, and a product that lasts like that is worth it to me.

Reddit— neutral

It’s nice but when I unboxed mine and saw the seams and the plastic base that wobbled a bit when the kettle wasn’t on it I was a bit disappointed

Electric Kettle GURU (affiliate)— neutral

I like using it, I like how it looks on the counter, but I'm also very aware that there are cheaper kettles that boil water just as well

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

the time it takes to get to the target temperature is slower than what I would like

Reddit▲ recommend

I finally broke down and got the studio pro with the walnut handle and never looked back. It extremely precise and looks sharp.

Reddit— neutral

I own a Stagg EKG and would totally share your opinion. But it's the only kettle that looks beautiful and that I enjoy looking at.

Reddit▲ recommend

I have one and I like it. Pours well, handles well, water touches no plastic, heats up fast und holds temp steadily.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

makes an already slow and expensive boiler even slower and more annoying to use

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

waiting an extra minute is far more frustrating than missing the target by 1-2C

Reddit▲ recommend

They’re nice kettles that look good on your kitchen counter and have a nice interface that’s pleasant to use.

For years I used a super cheapo big plastic electric kettle and it was both faster and held much more water than my Fellow.

Common problems & things to know

Practical notes owners raise — setup, quirks, and issues to watch for. They don't say whether the person likes the product, so they're not counted in the score, but they inform the pros, cons, and who it's for.

However, I don't update the kettle because it doesn't work unless I put my phone on 2.4 gHz. So I'm not overly concerned with future changes, I just wanted to share my use case.

Redditⓘ good to know

I double checked the kettle itself. The firmware seems to have updated but the app says otherwise. So I can only assume this new firmware has messed with something for us all

Redditⓘ good to know

I'm very glad this is being worked on. Is the improvement to heat times compared to the original time or the recently slowed-down time? I wonder what extra tweaks means.

Redditⓘ good to know

Hi Dan, I see that there is a new update posted to address this (1.1.76). Thank you for continuing to look for ways to improve the user experience. You guys are awesome, keep doing what you’re doing 🤘

Redditⓘ good to know

I added the wood option on the lid and handle. Other than that, I never saw anything in spec materials. So maybe at the flow regulator? Aside from that, the boil temp based on altitude is pretty neat.

Redditⓘ good to know

I left it idle for an hour or so and came back, and now it's back to "Your kettle hasn't checked in for a while." But it did download the slow-heating update on its own somehow... just keep waiting maybe?

Redditⓘ good to know

Then you're free to develop the next build without the time constraint knowing that there are lots of users getting increasingly frustrated with the Stagg.

Redditⓘ good to know

I think that you need to hold one of the button (do not remember which one), and then after few seconds it will display the firmware version. I think !!!

Redditⓘ good to know

94C to 96C Kettle always at least half full ~ for heat inertia and to protect the kettle from exposing the heat element to “air” V60 pour overs 230V

Redditⓘ good to know

Is there an alternative method for checking the firmware version directly on the base unit, rather than using the app? I would prefer to avoid connecting the base to the internet to prevent automatic updates for now.

Redditⓘ good to know

After watching this I ran straight to my kitchen to play Wormy on my Stagg EKG... But no matter how many times I flip the F/C switch, it doesn't work! Am I doing something wrong, or do older models not have it...? :(

Redditⓘ good to know

You should calibrate it, it's in the settings menu. I'd suggest even turning off wifi before, so you get the most noise free accurate result.

Redditⓘ good to know

What if you do not update it does it do it on it's own? I don't think mine is connected to the internet and not sure what update everyone is talking about. I have the lattitude set but have not used an app with it does this matter? ty!

Damn… just got mine Black Friday. I’m going to run it to see if that’s happening. It has not done that so far…

Redditⓘ good to know

Anyone having problems with the Stagg LED burning out? Kettle heats up but light doesn’t come on at all 😢

Redditⓘ good to know

All you have to do is run the calibration under maintenance and it should return to normal operation

Redditⓘ good to know

I can’t quite tell from the video - can you hear a clicking sound of the heating element cycling off and on when it’s doing this (when it should be on the entire time until it reaches temp)? I had that issue and was able to get a warranty replacement from Fellow.

Redditⓘ good to know

I’ve been using my kettle for 4 yrs with around 80 ppm water and don’t see any calcification

Redditⓘ good to know

Submit a ticket to fellow. If you registered it online, you have a three year warranty

Redditⓘ good to know

It bothered me that it completed a heating cycle and stayed hot for 30 minutes before I needed it. Every time it brings water to temp is wearing slightly on the element and the control board. Doing these things are how I justify spending outside of my means on a high ticket item.

Redditⓘ good to know

thought my ekg was breaking down glad to know they are fixing this

Redditⓘ good to know

The stagg also has a timer and the Plus model has bluetooth so you can turn it on from your phone in the morning if you fill it the night before. Not sure if the others do this, but the Stagg's Hold switch is a manual switch and is always on or off. It doesn't reset when you turn the kettle off.

Redditⓘ good to know

I start believing that it is indeed a software update issue!
