Shimano GLF

Based on 23 comments across 3 communities
TL;DR
Inshore and freshwater anglers consistently call this their favorite rod for the money, landing everything from speckled trout to 28-inch reds and big bass on it. The sensitivity and action get specific praise, and most owners are happy paying around $80-$100 for it. The recurring gripe is cheap hardware, with several owners cracking a rod tip or reaffixing the foregrip.

96% of 23 verified owners recommend the Shimano GLF.

Ironically the medium-light landed a 36” wide Cownose Ray and two of three of my largest Redfish (25-1/2” and 27”) while the Teramar has caught one Oyster Toad.

The blank is great but they definitely cheaped out on hardware

I have a Shimano GLF series 6'6", fast action and rated to 5/8oz lure. 20lb braid and 20lb fluoro leader. Took some finesse and patience to get her in. Had her up 4 times before we could net her and it was a blast.

I have one of BG 2500s paired with a Shimano GLF 6'6" med fast ($99) with 15lb braid. It's a real nice general purpose set up.

I throw flukes almost exclusively on a daiwa bg and 7’6 shimano glf medium/fast with 12# fluorocarbon. It is absolutely fantastic.

I've got a shimano sustain 3000 on medium Shimano GLF, and it's fantastic for throwing top waters, soft plastics, and corkies.

I am using for inshore fishing the Shimano glf medium Shimano GLFS70M with shimano vanford 5000 reel, I have taken 12/14 pound jacks and large barracudas, I have not had problems with the medium

I paired my 3000 up with the Shimano GLF series 7’6” and 15 lbs power pro. Fish all over Tampa bay and covers me on 90% of species- trout, snook, reds, mackerel, etc. Great set up couldn’t be happier.

I actually love a little Shimano GLF rod, it's rated as a saltwater rod but it's a good small cranking rod.

My two favorites are my duckett salt series and shimano glf, both medium fast.

I bought it as an inshore rod but it quickly became my favorite freshwater weightless soft plastics rod. I love that rod. I can’t find anything under $150 that I like more.

I paired my Sedona 4K with a shimano glf med/fast. Running 25lb braid and a mono leader for inshore. Haven’t had any issues with reds and speckled trout

I have the 2000 series on a Shimano GLF 7’ medium and it’s my favorite combo, not the most expensive setup but I’ve caught everything from bass to 28” redfish on it. And probably a couple hundred speckled trout.

i've been throwing a 1oz top water lure on my GLF for striper and it's light and handles the fish with ease. 7'6" MH. I love it better than my Toadfish inshore(another inshore brand).to answer your question,I love both brands but I'd go Shimano GLF.

I have a GLF 7' medium heavy that has served me well.

i use these rods, i have 6 of them (tbf 4 are for casting reels but still) a 2500 or 3000 shimano is perfect for them for my application (gulf inshore. flounder, trout, redfish)

Water Wire▲ recommend

It actually cast further than my Crucial with the same lures. The stiffer tip section gives the lure a sharper twitching action on retrieve.

The GLF has a very soft, sensitive tip that's perfect for feeling subtle strikes and playing fish delicately.
