Espro P7

TL;DR
The Espro P7 wins owners over with its stainless build, strong heat retention, and an exceptionally clean cup thanks to the double micro-filter. The trade-off is that same filter: it traps a lot of liquid and grounds, often resisting a full plunge and making it wasteful for small batches and fiddly to clean. It's a pricey press best reserved for those who want a clean, large batch kept hot, not anyone after value or single cups.

55% of 11 verified owners recommend the Espro P7.

What owners like
  • The full-stainless build provides excellent insulation, keeping a large batch of coffee hot for hours. · 4 · 36%
  • The double micro-filter delivers a remarkably clean, nearly sediment-free cup that owners say a standard French press can't match. · 3 · 27%
  • The sealed filter effectively halts the brewing process, so coffee held over a few hours doesn't turn bitter or over-extracted. · 2 · 18%
  • Owners praise the taste and find it well-suited to brewing a large batch to sip slowly or serve to guests. · 2 · 18%
What owners flag
  • The filter design traps a large amount of liquid and slurry at the bottom, so the press often doesn't plunge fully and leaves coffee behind. · 4 · 36%
  • It's poorly suited to small batches, retaining so much brew under the filter that making a single cup is wasteful and inefficient. · 2 · 18%
  • Cleanup is fiddly, with extra water in the slurry and a second basket to wash out. · 2 · 18%
  • It's expensive, and several owners felt the price isn't worth it unless you specifically need what it offers. · 2 · 18%
  • Some report durability issues over time, including filters tearing from the frame and paint peeling from the lid. · 2 · 18%

I don't recommend this press. I recently noticed black pieces floating in my coffee and thought it was coffee grounds, but upon closer inspection, it was the paint peeling from the lid!

I have the large P7 and a P1. The great advantage of the Espro full stainless presses over their glass presses is that the stainless steel ones keep coffee hot for a long time.

This is my biggest complaint too that it leaves a noticeable amount of liquid at the bottom. I find I have to plunge it a couple of times or just keep it tilted until it all slowly drips out. It's like it doesn't quite go all the way to the bottom.

With the P7, not only does the coffee retain more heat due to superior insulation, it is also much better sealed off from the coffee at the bottom of the pot.

I tried the small, and could not brew 16 ozs., especially dark roasts. I exchanged it for the large, and returned that one too, for the reasons I stated above.

I am just ordering my third filter bcs it tears away from the plastic frame over time. Has anyone else experienced this. I have owned my pot for about 4 years. I have also found it doesn;t keep the coffee very hot.

Espro has a P7 model that works really well! It’s around 32 ounces and does an excellent job retaining heat.

the filter design is bad. It leaves a huge amount of water in the bottom of the French press. Not worth it imo unless you really need what it offers. I wish I had just got another normal french press. It's actually harder to clean as so much water stays in the slurry

Even though there is a little liquid left at the bottom, it’s ok, if I’m desperate, I’ll go ahead and filter it the leftovers myself with an extra sieve. Otherwise it happens to make just enough for the perfect large cup of coffee I need in the AM. The taste is excellent.

You get a clean cup that can never be matched by a traditional French press.

I have a P7. The main benefit for me is that it pretty much stops the brewing process and keeps the coffee hot. So if you want to brew a large amount either to drink slowly over the course of 2-3 hours or have ready for guests it's a real treat. The main drawback aside from price, for me, is that the plunger is heavy enough that it'll plunge itself - meaning I can't force the grounds to saturate below the surface while keeping temperature up.. and that it's best for brewing near full volume (otherwise you'll have some waste below the filters).
