Bonavita Variable Temp Gooseneck Kettle

Based on 278 comments across 2 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly love this kettle for the exact temperature control with set-and-hold and the smooth, precise gooseneck pour, and many report five to ten years of daily use with no trouble. The most common complaints are rust or oxidation around the spout joint and interior, especially with hard water, and electronics or control boards that eventually fail. Smaller gripes include no audible alert, temperature readings that can drift, and a hold/timer that resets whenever you lift the kettle off its base.

compared to the Bonavita kettle that died on me. (Edit: They're good quality, but if you leave them plugged in 24/7 a fuse in the base tends to blow, at least in Europe.)

my only complaints about the kettle are that it doesn't retain heat well when off the element, and in the gooseneck specifically, it doesn't pour hard enough for certain teas that need fast, hot, aggressive pours.

Bonavita gooseneck kettle at 198 degrees using a Hario v60. Once you start drinking good coffee you realize the burnt offerings of chain locations

It still gets up to temp as fast as it did. Can be a couple degrees off, but I've been extremely happy with it through the years.

After having a Bonavita gooseneck for a long time now, here's what I'd say in the gooseneck vs bulbous matchup

I have one, which replaced the one that rusted. When it started to rust also I brought it home from the office (which was where I'd been using them) and it stopped rusting.

Over the last year my Bonavita kettle basically disintegrated on me, and general opinion of the brand is pretty low these days, so I was looking for something new.

I love my Bonavita gooseneck electric kettle. It heats the water in minutes, but otherwise a pretty standard gooseneck kettle.

My Bonavita variable temp is going decently strong after about four or five years, but it does have some gremlins sometimes that cause it to not work every so often.

I have a Bonavita variable temperature gooseneck kettle that makes no noise other than the sound of water boiling (if you use it to boil).

I'll second the heat retention thing. Even when full, it'll drop 5-10 degrees F in a matter of minutes. Which leads to a lot of reboiling.

Reddit▲ recommend

It gives me precise temperature control and it will hold that temperature for a while which is handy when making coffee as part of a meal

But I use my Bonavita Variable Temperature Gooseneck Kettle probably ten times a day!

both have been fine for over a year. Three years now for the Oxo. The bonavita has a little rust around the rim where the lid goes.

I still own a Bonavita gooseneck, but it's showing its age by being a lot slower to heat up, and now it's been relegated to the kitchen.

The Bonavita gooseneck when filled up to the limit will disperse a massive amount of hot water to satisfy any conventional kettle desires. For coffee when you want nice fine control you just have to fill the kettle halfway or so.

I've got two. My older one works like day one even after 5+ years of daily use. You can also program the exact temp you want which is a missing feature on some other variable temp kettles.

it is a SLOW kettle, I timed mine at 9 minutes to boil.) You also have to remember to hit the "hold" button every time you lift it

I've been using the same Bonavita temp control gooseneck kettle for coming on 7 years now, it gets used multiple times a day. Sure it's not as flashy, but it does the job and does it right.

I bought a silicone flow restrictor for my Bonavita gooseneck kettle about 2 years ago. Makes pourovers a lot more "controllable", but a bit aggravating when I want to make a cup of tea!

I had the BonaVita variable temp Gooseneck for 3 years or so before upgrading last year and I will never look back.

I love my Bonavita variable temp gooseneck kettle. It's a bit pricey, but it really works well. Since I don't have to watch a thermometer, I can just turn it on and walk away to do other prep work

I've owned the Bonavita digital kettle for quite some time and used it for coffee and tea that way.

I have a Bonavita Gooseneck kettle and the temps seem to be pretty inconsistent, today I set it to 202 with the kettle half full and it went all the way up to 207.
