OXO Brew 9-Cup

TL;DR
When it works, the OXO Brew 9-Cup makes genuinely excellent coffee thanks to its certified brewing temperature and thermal carafe, wrapped in a design owners love. But reliability is the recurring worry: a notable share report controls shorting out, internal rust, leaks, and a descale lockout that can stop the machine from brewing at all, sometimes within just a few years. It is a great brewer when healthy, but longevity is a real gamble for the price.

the thoroughly modern-looking OXO Brew 9 Cup Coffee Maker is a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. This is about as close to perfect as a coffee maker gets. The only fault I could find is that the water tank is not removable.

I have done direct comparisons of both brewers, and while the Oxo has more convenience features (clock and timer), the Bonavita brews a better cup overall.

Several months ago I purchased the OXO 9-Cup Coffee Maker. When I went to do the first deep clean, I realized that in addition to brewing coffee, I was also brewing rust!

Our OXO 9 cup brews wonderful coffee, but the controls have shorted out - it is full on whenever it is plugged in! It's over 5 years old; I guess we will try calling OXO before starting the process of buying a replacement.

I bought the OXO for a family member as a gift 2+ years ago. It's still going strong (averaging 1 brew per day) and makes a great cup. I like the SCA-certification, the pre-soak, the shower-style nozzle, and the thermal carafe instead of a hot plate.

The water reservoir in that coffee maker is impossible to clean.

the OXO 9 Cup is truly a thing of beauty. The OXO 9 Cup is one of a select few coffee makers to have been certified for home brewing by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA). The one downside to the OXO 9 Cup Coffee Maker that I can see is its height.

Still use it everyday. It’s a very good machine and I would get it again. Looking back though I think I would chose the one with the hot plate. I find the coffee has cooled down quite a bit in the metal carafe after I finish the first cup and often have to microwave the second.

Mine has started doing this after 6 years.

This is generally my experience with the OXO, but I will add that sometimes it outsmarts itself and will lock you out of brews thinking it needs to be descaled. EVEN AFTER DESCALING. Yeah it was frustrating and I sold mine after it did it to me multiple times locking me out of morning coffee only to find the next day. Nothing beats the simplicity of on/off s

he concluded that the OXO was pretty good at brewing too, and nicer to use. (His biggest criticism of the OXO was that the rotary dial felt a little cheap. I think that's fair. I've had my machine for about 6 years now, and the dial is starting to feel like it's about to go bad on me. That's my only problem with the machine to date, though.) If my OXO died t

one positive attribute I want to add is that they will replace parts on it pretty much forever. The carafe has a small sensor in the bottom to detect when it is seated in the coffee maker. Why? I don't know. It's totally over-engineered. That being said, my chip recently started malfunctioning and OXO sent me a new carafe. I've had the coffee maker for about
