Gregory Zulu 55

Based on 25 comments across 2 communities
TL;DR
Owners consistently call the Zulu 55 one of the most comfortable packs they've carried, with a hipbelt and adjustable harness that fits a wide range of body types and makes heavy loads feel effortless. It swallows gear for trips from a weekend up to two weeks, the ventilated mesh back keeps you from sweating through, and most feel it's a strong value. The main trade-offs: it's a single big top-loader with few compartments, and at around 1500g it's comfort-first rather than ultralight.

88% of 25 verified owners recommend the Gregory Zulu 55.

Yes that's what I hate about the Zulu. To open that front compartment zipper I have to undo at least 3 buckles. To open the main top opening I have to undo 3 buckles and the strap. Definitely don't like that.

I have a zulu 55 now that I'm debating on keeping...I like it, I just need to be a bit...rounder lol. Not sure why gregory hip belts are so large but it's super annoying.

is an excellent pack which I use for almost all of my overnight trips these days

I bought both to try out, and I ended up returning the Zulu. It was caught in this awkward compromise area of not being light enough for when I want to go light and not being comfortable enough with a heavy load.

My Gregory Zulu 55 is so comfortable for walking and it fits a LOT. It feels effortless to carry. However, it really is just one big sack so if you're going to be working out of your bag or taking things out a lot you will want something with more compartments.

But my Fave is Gregory Zulu 55

The Zulu's hipbelt has consistently been very comfortable no matter the weight or length of hike they take it on. It does seem to quite naturally cradle your hips, and if the pack is sized to you well I think the moulded design is very nice.

I have a Gregory Zulu 55 that's comfortable with big loads and has an integrated rain cover.

I have a Gregory Zulu 55 and it's the best bag I've owned. Small enough to use as a weekend bag but big enough to fit everything for a 2 week trip (and still be used as a carry-on)

Gregory Zulu 55! I’ve done 6 days of backcountry with it. Held everything I needed easily

I've got a Gregory Zulu 55 and it's huge. It's also about as light as you can go (for that size) and still be prioritizing pack comfort a bit.

For me my Gregory Zulu 55 it's the stuff pouch on the back and adjustable height shoulder straps which are an absolute necessity.

Even though it may not fit the ultralight weight limit I love this pack, the water bottle sleeve is the only thing I don't like.

I have a Gregory Zulu 55 and it's fantastic. I liked mine so much that I almost exclusively use gregory packs for hiking now.

Gregory Zulu 55 got me through 6 days with a lot of room to spare.

I just got a Gregory Zulu 55, which I've liked so far, did a quick 10 miler with it Labor Day weekend. I love the mesh on the back that holds the pack slightly away from you to keep things from getting too sweaty. Normally my entire back is sweaty, but this time it was only right where the waist belt was, which can't really be helped.

This pack is worth the money, period. It is one of the less expensive packs in this review but offers the same experience as some packs costing $50-$100 more.

I love my Zulu 30, but the Zulu line doesn't have adjustable harness height, so if it doesn't fit well nothing you can do.

I bought this exact pack at the end of last summer, and have put around 100 miles on it. I really like it.
