It would of been nice if instead of 2 bags of carbon they would given you more bio media

Best filter i have had

Silent. You can keep the nozzle slightly under the surface and it'll create surface agitation. * Bio media, sponge, customizable, etc etc * Cons: * I bought it during Black Friday at PetSmart. Otherwise, I would never have bought it. It's really expensive.

i have a 407, it can be a pain in my ass. cleaning it is such a hassle lol, but i have found everything has to be set PERFECTLY in it or it wont run at 100%

love these filters

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I do not recommend the Fluval simply due to their aqua-stop valve being poorly made and their clamps that hold the top down are not ideal either.

Reddit— neutral

It is ugly and the inlet feels way too big.

Reddit▲ recommend

I highly recommend the Fluval 407 canister filter. I love mine and I like being able to add some more filter media or change the type of filter media.

Fish Forums— neutral

Fluvals are ok, but I really don't like the ribbed hose and the goofy way they attach the hoses to the aquarium rim.

The Planted Tank Forum— neutral

only problem is that whenever the door is closed, I hear the droning noise of the filter running

YouTube▲ recommend

I would sure recommend this cannister filter

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I’ve had a ton of trouble with cloudy water since I switched to two trays of the bio ceramics

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

if still no improvement I'm moving on from fluval as my second hand 307 isn't much better

YouTube▲ recommend

It's easy to use and clean

Reddit— neutral

mine is also a right pain to restart and the priming handle doesn't seem to do much.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

At 75g I’m going with an fx4 so much more space and flow rate then the 407.

The Planted Tank Forum— neutral

The Fluval 407 worked very well in the first year, for my 50g tank.

Love mine

Reddit▲ recommend

you have a perfect amount of filtration. I have a 45 gallon tank and I’m running a fluval 407 (canister filter) recommended for 100 gallons and two sponge filters recommended for 60 gallons each.

but all in all it works well

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I’d recommend the FX2 I have it in my 75 and it works phenomenally

Reddit▲ recommend

I run a Fluval 407 canister filter on it which is powerful at filtering the water.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

When I ran 4 series they were always a pain to restart.

Redditⓘ good to know

It's a Fluval 407 Performance Canister Filter we bought it at Pet Smart.

Redditⓘ good to know

Fluval 407 Performance Canister Filter. Have not added any substrate at the bottom since upgraded to the bigger tank. Only the turtle, filter and her platform.

Redditⓘ good to know

And this is the canister filter I use, I have a 75 gallon tank so depending on your tank size you could get the smaller version https://www.petsmart.com/fish/filters-and-pumps/filters/fluval-407-performance-canister-filter-5290152.html

I have both the FX4 and 407. My personal opinion is that the FX4 works best in 6ft long tanks, unless you need strong water flow. It's very powerful. The 407 is suitable for a tank that size.

Redditⓘ good to know

really easy. considering you have a sink or bathtub available. the hoses have a quick release lever so the water cuts off instantly when removing.

I am having this issue currently. Just read your post. I think it’s from having slag in the hose. I have mine filter up on table I built and it makes slag in the hoses . If I hold the filter off and below the table it stops.

Redditⓘ good to know

If flow is strong let it ride. Won’t hurt but some filter bags dissolve over time. At least the fluval 407 canister filtration bag have.

Redditⓘ good to know

I never figured out personally what was going on, but I moved a few months ago and when I set up the filter at my new place it stopped doing this. No idea what changed but might be worth moving the placement around or something, I dunno, lol.

Redditⓘ good to know

I have Fluval 407 too, just clean the foam to remove the big debris. When you siphon clean the gravel, drain it in bucket, then open your canister, pull out the foam cartridge only, take out the foam and wash it in the bucket with the aquarium water.

Redditⓘ good to know

I have two sponge filters and the Fluval 407 canister, so ordering purigen now! Thank you :)

Redditⓘ good to know

Sounds like air/air bubbles in the canister. You may need to open it up and add more water or turn it off and reprime. You shouldn't have that trickling water sound. If you just have that offgasing noise, it can be caused by air bubbles and will often dissipate over time.

Redditⓘ good to know

I remember it being pretty tempermental when it starts up for the first time.

Redditⓘ good to know

I agree, I run fluval 407s on most of the tanks, they range from 20g to 75g, and for the larger ones, I have FX6's. Dont get me wrong though, ive used sponges and got very good results throughout my fish keeping journey. Personally, I really like the options a canister filter gives you.

Redditⓘ good to know

I just got a 75 with a fluval 407. Spray bar is not included.

Redditⓘ good to know

I’ve switched the hoses out, no different, it’s so strange

Also checking in on this, I’m having this issue
