Maintenance is praised too, since you can backwash the gunk straight into a bucket without opening it often. The most common gripes are that the media sits loose in the canister instead of in lift-out baskets (annoying at cleaning time), and that flow can leave dead spots, so some owners add a powerhead.

Owners overwhelmingly love the FX6 for keeping water crystal clear with huge media capacity, strong flow, and surprisingly quiet operation, and most only clean it every few months. The recurring gripes are the steep price (people repeatedly point to SunSun canisters at a fraction of the cost), its sheer size needing a tall cabinet or floor space beside the tank, and that it must sit below water level or it gets finicky to prime, sometimes gurgling or rattling air after a cleaning. A handful of owners also reported leaks, hose pops, or motor and valve failures over the years.
