Fluval 407 Performance Canister Filter

“Extra info...They are in a 75gal fully cycled etc. using a Fluval407 with a spray bar facing the back of the tank to minimize flow and they also have two air stones. I'm currently cycling out the black sand so don't come at me please. I don't want to take it all out at once and have a cycle crash.”

“I have both the FX4 and 407. My personal opinion is that the FX4 works best in 6ft long tanks, unless you need strong water flow. It's very powerful. The 407 is suitable for a tank that size.”

“really easy. considering you have a sink or bathtub available. the hoses have a quick release lever so the water cuts off instantly when removing.”

“I am having this issue currently. Just read your post. I think it’s from having slag in the hose. I have mine filter up on table I built and it makes slag in the hoses . If I hold the filter off and below the table it stops.”

“If flow is strong let it ride. Won’t hurt but some filter bags dissolve over time. At least the fluval 407 canister filtration bag have.”

“I never figured out personally what was going on, but I moved a few months ago and when I set up the filter at my new place it stopped doing this. No idea what changed but might be worth moving the placement around or something, I dunno, lol.”

“I have Fluval 407 too, just clean the foam to remove the big debris. When you siphon clean the gravel, drain it in bucket, then open your canister, pull out the foam cartridge only, take out the foam and wash it in the bucket with the aquarium water.”

“Sounds like air/air bubbles in the canister. You may need to open it up and add more water or turn it off and reprime. You shouldn't have that trickling water sound. If you just have that offgasing noise, it can be caused by air bubbles and will often dissipate over time.”

“I agree, I run fluval 407s on most of the tanks, they range from 20g to 75g, and for the larger ones, I have FX6's. Dont get me wrong though, ive used sponges and got very good results throughout my fish keeping journey. Personally, I really like the options a canister filter gives you.”
