Fluval Evo XII 13.5

Based on 20 comments across 1 community
TL;DR
The Fluval Evo XII 13.5 is a fine, affordable starting point for a nano reef, coming complete with a light and pump that handle softies and basic corals well enough out of the box. But owners are clear that it's a tank you'll grow out of: the stock light, sponge, and pump are commonly replaced, and the tight rear chambers make those upgrades fiddly. Buy it knowing you'll likely budget for upgrades down the line.

The Fluval Evo 13.5 is, IMO, a better choice.

My first marine tank was an evo 13.5g. It still running and has been an absolutely amazing tank but I wish it had been a little larger.

Fluval is a cool little aquarium but the stock light that comes with it is misleading and if you want corals you need to replace it anyways

To keep cost down Fluval EVO is good, but it is small, very limited choice of the fish.

for the price it looks great

the fluval evo 13.5 is a decent all-in-one tank. Comes with basic filtration and reef grade LEDs.

I’ve owned both the 13.5 evo, as well as innovative marine 25 lagoon and now a 40 nuvo. I like the evo alright, but you’ll want to upgrade the light. The back chamber is also REALLY tight.

I never need more that a 5 gallon jug to do a water change and all the filtration is included.

RO buddie worked with my 13.5 and now my 25 gallon for 3 years. Still going strong, although I've replaced the cartridges a couple times.

The fluval light is OK for some softies and low light corals. I ended up replacing mine with an air prime after about 6 months. It was okay for growing some Kenya tree, mushrooms, and zoa's. It isn't the greatest, but it isn't a bad starting point.

I started out with less than 250$ on an aio kit (fluval evo)

I ran the stock for a few months but upgrade to an AI Blade which fits nicely in the stock opening

These kits also come with lighting that's adequate for corals/reefs.

It depends on how you cycle it. My Fluval EVO 13.5 cycled in about 7-9 days.

I have mostly LPS in my tank with some basic softies and the light that comes with the fluval has done the job pretty well so far. I just wish I could adjust the white to blue light ratio, and would like more shimmer. I initially really liked that it had a lid to help with evaporation, but getting the lid out of the way while still having some light while tr

Yeah that was my first concern with the Evo, the sponge it comes with is apparently a nitrate factory, I would immediately purchase the intank caddy for the filter media in chamber 2, so that in itself would bump the price up 50$ from the 160$ making it a total of 210$ only 40$ cheaper than the IM 14g tank that comes with the custom filter media caddy includ

i have a 13.5 with stock lighting and small power head. All of my corals are doing fine. except a Duncan that I accidentally crushed with a falling rock. people will regurgitate things they have read on the internet and swear that anything less than what they have, or is generally accepted will fail. it’s going to cost you $120 $150 depending on where you bu

I just got an Evo last month and I like it alright. The IM tanks have a better media setup and probably a better pump, but they don't come with a light. The Evo stock light is decent, but I'm adding some blue LED strips for better color from the corals. I don't really like the hood and I've been thinking about having a glass top cut for it instead.
