The Focusrite interfaces are good quality / price. I think the Universal Audio Apollo are better sound quality / feature / function / hardware wise. That said they are a little more $.

personally i find the preamps on the apollo to be a bit cloudy and certainly not upper class. i don't think the conversion is that great either. not terrible, but not great.

Hated console, major workflow killer and, despite being much newer (and more 'capable'), the Apollo simply didn't sound better to me and I considered it a lateral move at best.

I use Apollo gear and love it and the UA plugins I have to bits. The plugins are generally very well implemented and, provided you wait for one of UA's frequent sales, reasonably priced.

I have an Apollo twin. There are cheaper options if you just want an interface and similar performance. The question is really how important hosting plug-ins is to you

I have the mk2. I find my mk2 way too dark and tend to plug it out and use my Apogee Duet for mixing which is might brighter and clearer and more accurate in my opinion.

I have a similar issue with relay clicking on my old apollo twin duo. It does not affect the audio though. It started after upgrading my OS to Ventura from Big Sur.

Ended up with a dedicated iMac running Logic Pro X, and the Universal Audio Apollo Twin II QUAD Thunderbolt. Plus, now, other UA hardware and plugins. Very satisfied.

I bought an apollo TB to use with my windows 11 laptop on TB4 and it was awful performance wise . i sent it back and bought an Antelope which had much better drivers.

I felt pretty much the same way about Apollo twin mk 1 vs mk 2. The difference felt very neglible. And neither of em still sounded as good as my SPL Crimson 3.

I hated it in pretty much every way, except sound quality which was fine. First you have to download and install several GB of stuff to even use it as a normal interface to get any sound from your computer.

I have an Apollo Firewire QUAD has been working great for quite sometime. I use the plug-ins included with the interface and have purchased 1 or 2 afterwards.

I tried a few months ago an Apollo Twin MKII but I sent it back as I didn't like at all the converters. It sounded muffled to me, lack of definition, too much low mids, compared to the Pure 2 which sounded clearer and punchier.

Happy UAD Apollo user here, but as has been said, I wouldn't track with their plug-ins, as I always process in the box after tracking. They are useful though whilst tracking (but not committing) for auditioning.

I do like the Apollo preamps - but not over the Apogee Preamps. They both serve different purposes - the Apollos emulate a certain sound whereas the Apogees are very pristine and uncolored. And the Apogee has about 10db more gain available.

what happens if their hardware fails or there is a customer service issue? How eager do you think they will be to keep you as a customer when they know you have invested $$ in their software? Not very eager at all in my experience

I have a first gen Apollo Quad that I've used since 2012. I have a few outboard pres, mics, etc and just record straight into a Macbook Pro running PT10. Has worked flawlessly for me -- no latency, sounds great.

The 1248 sounds better than my Apollo quad ( Silver ) wich I paid more than double when it first got out

I actually preferred the sound of my old mbox 3 D/A to the apollo solom so I'm swapping my solo for a Symphony.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the “best” but my ears can’t resolve anything better. The unison preamps and certain plugins are excellent.

It seems fine unless I have a bunch of tracks. The "low latency" button in Logic helps a lot, though.

I've had the Apollo twin duo and it was a really nice unit. The plugins are pretty amazing and the temptation to buy more is always there.

I recently upgraded from a Focusrite Scarlet to a UA Apollo interface at home.

I bought into UA workflow, exclusive plugins, software development aptitude and breadth of support resources (such as the UA user forum).
