TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly love the Curado DC for its digital braking, which makes backlash and birds nests nearly impossible and lets it cast smoothly even in heavy wind, earning it a reputation as a forgiving, premium reel. The main caveat is reliability: a handful of owners report gritty reeling, clicking, or lemon units within months, and several feel the high price is hard to justify over much cheaper baitcasters. It's best for anglers who want a versatile, confidence-building reel and don't mind paying a premium for the easiest casting experience.

75% of 358 verified owners recommend the Shimano Curado DC, based on real owner verdicts aggregated from Reddit, enthusiast forums, and YouTube.

It prevents backlashes during the cast…it does not prevent stupidity.

Despite the loss... I still prefer the Scorpion DC :)

I get a backlash like that almost all the time

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

Tensioner knob is a little too loose.

This reel is perfect for me

it does backlash occasionally, it is usually not as bad or take ad long to get backlash out as other baitcasters if adjusting properly.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s interesting and I’ve been using shimano for years but come onnnn.

We can tell you our Shimano Curado DC's are bad ass

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

the scorpion dc is better than the curado in just about every stat like the MGL spook and the idc5 brakes

I’m going scorpion just because it’s more slick than the curado by the dc tile

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I had issues with the curado DC where a loop of line will get caught in behind the side of the thumb bar, during a cast and it's near impossible to get it out without cutting it. It's a show stopper when it happens

Got mine, love it.

Really like my Antares DC.

Even got myself a nice shimano Curado DC that I just cant seem to get the hang of.

at the end of the day IMO it’s just a red/black (DC) Curado

every time I cast it just explodes line. So, I stick with the spinner reels.

The reel sound 🤤

I have the SLX DC with a custom speed stick and it’s the most expensive combo I have at around $300

The Shimano cast further and feels very very nice, but the Tatula is my go to.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

i love that sound but i hate that backlash

Gotta say, I’m still not going to shelf the curado for some time. My opinion it’s just that good

Redditⓘ good to know

I now have a $260 Shimano Curado DC that I’ve stepped up to.

Bass Resourceⓘ good to know

I have the Curado DC and 3 reels with the MGL spool. For casting into the wind the DC wins out but under normal conditions I can get almost as much distance out of the MGLs as I can the DC, sometimes more.

Bass Resourceⓘ good to know

I still use my thumb on my Curado dc. The thumb is needed a lot less but the DC isn’t completely fool-proof especially when using fluorocarbon.

2 Cool Fishing Forumⓘ good to know

Mines been dunked in saltwater a few times. Freshwater rinse, let it dry then some reel oil and back together.

BBCBoardsⓘ good to know

I have 5 DC's. 1 gave me a heck of a time to get it dialed in. Even called Shimano CS and sent it in. Nothing wrong with it at all. Had some very small diameter line on it and light crankbait. Turns out these reels need a little 'meat' on the bone. I put a heavier line and slightly overadjusted the tension knob and all is well.
