Sony A7 IV

Based on 100 comments across 4 communities
TL;DR
The Sony a7 IV is an excellent hybrid all-rounder that owners praise again and again for class-leading autofocus and eye tracking, sharp 33MP files, and strong low-light performance, backed by a deep and affordable lens lineup. The recurring caveats are mostly video-leaning: 4K overheating, rolling shutter that pushes you to mechanical shutter, plus color science and skin tones that some fight in post. It's best for stills shooters and mixed photo/video creators who want one dependable do-everything body rather than a dedicated long-form 4K rig.

59% of 100 verified owners recommend the Sony A7 IV.

I'm a A7 IV user and I don't want to shoot 24p because of stutters it introduces when panning. And I don't want to shoot 60p because it introduces 1.5x crop and makes my lenses less versatile. But above all, 30p is the most commonly used framerate, it should have been enabled by default...

In 4K30, I know some people had good luck with the A7 IV not overheating, but mine can be made to overheat. My A7 IV would overheat in about 70-80 minutes if plugged into a USB-C power source, and it is quite battery hungry in 4K30

I don't think it's necessarily the size in terms of resolution it's the quality of the sensor itself and the lens output.

carry an extra battery since the a7 IV can eat through them on long days

But this camera's low-light performance is insane. And the autofocus eye tracking *on my dogs*. Like, holy WTF.

I have the same fan you linked and use it on my A7IV when filming outdoors or anytime I film in 4k60 after I had a bad experience with it overheating on a job (Florida outdoors).

I've used a Sony A7 IV and a A7R V. You'll notice more grain on the RV, but thats because of the higher resolution, if you downsampled the same photo to 24mp, it'll have less grain.

my feeling is that it performs better than the Sony a7 IV in terms of noise.

I photograph weddings as my career and I took a backup camera (Sony A7 IV with the 24-70 f2.8 lens). For me it was worth it.

I personally own Sony a7 IV and a1. But for your use, canon or sony with its native lens, you will get good AF. A7 IV have breathing compensation that only works with certain Sony lenses

How many hours have I spent in Lightroom with photos out of my Sony A7 IV trying to correct skin colors in difficult mixed lighting situations? The iPhone solves the issue within a second of taking the photo.

So I pretty recently invested in a Sony a7 IV. It's my first full frame mirrorless and I absolutely love it so far.

I'm experiencing a lot of ghosting with my Sony A7 IV. This shot was taken at ISO 12800, and when I go higher than that, it becomes even worse.

With Sony A7 IV, out of 500 event photos 4-5 are out of focus

when I compared my X-T5 to the Sony A7 IV, I was very disappointed. The front and rear wheels on the X-T5 felt cheaper, as did the top dials, which felt filmsy and plastic.

I recently bought a Sony A7 IV and the color science does not compare to my Fuji. I am going to retun it and stay in the Fuji ecosystem.

The upgrade from the a7 III to the a7 IV was definitely worth it for me. The faster autofocus with tracking is a big improvement. The ergonomics and and faster operation are also better.

on the Sony A7 IV the APS-C mode is only 14mp. which is fine for video as it'll still need to downsample as 4k video is only 8mp, but for photos it usually is not great

I’ve swapped from a Sony A7 IV to the lumix S5 IIX and eventually got a G9 II to match. The only thing I miss really is the 33MP but everything else specially video, lumix has so much to offer

After trying my friend's Sony a7 IV in December I was instantly captivated. I eagerly acquired my camera soon after and have been using it ever since, learning more everyday.

While it was a fine camera, I didn't like the images or color science as much. I didn't like it's size and lack of optical view finder, and I didn't find that all of it's mirror-less bells and whistles did anything more for me than the K1.

I got a Sony A7 iv, though it is pricey and wouldn’t really say it’s a beginners camera, I wanted something that I wouldn’t have to change/replace within a short term.

a7 iv is where it's at. I had an older Nikon and then upgraded to the Nikon D500 and then sold camera and some really good glass and went sony fullframe mirrorless a7 iv

I'm realising that all my issues with the colour from the Sony A7 IV camera are based around brown food or pink skin!
