Lodge 6-Quart Enameled Dutch Oven

Based on 59 comments across 2 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly call this a near-Le Creuset performer at a fraction of the price, and most use it weekly for everything from soups and braises to baking bread. The recurring complaint is enamel chipping or flaking, sometimes after a few years of regular use, with a few also noting it stains, fits its lid loosely, and is heavy to handle. Even so, repeat buyers say it holds heat well and lasts for years if treated right.

The 6-quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven weighs nearly 14lbs, which is heavier than larger models from other manufacturers.

Seconding the Lodge rec, had a 6qt for nine years (ty Amazon for the purchase date when I looked it up lol) and it still performs well even as the enamel has chipped/worn a bit.

As someone who has owned 3 Lodge Dutch Ovens before buying a quality one, it sure won't. The enamel chips and scratches way too easily on the Lodge ones.

When I got the Lodge it had obvious bubbles in the interior enamel. I felt they would eventually chip and expose the cast iron. Deal killer right there.

If I could take three cooking tools (and only three) with me, the 6-quart enameled Dutch oven would be one of the three, for sure. I use it for a wok, pot, roast pan, and everything else. The Lodge examples are easy on the wallet.

My dutch oven. I probably use it daily. I use it for everything - deep frying, soups, stock, sauces, stew, and braising. I even make bread in it. It can go from stovetop to oven to table.

I've been baking breads from FWSY in a gas oven using two dutch ovens, both enameled, both are in the 5-6 quart range. One is Lodge brand, the other is Tramontina. The enamel on the Lodge dutch oven started chipping off, so I use parchment paper to ensure no enamel chips end up in my loaves.

Lodge makes a damn fine dutch oven with an enamel coating for about $50 ([Amazon says $53](http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-Color-EC6D43-Enameled-6-Quart/dp/B000N501BK)). I've had mine for years and it use it 2 to 3 times a week for all sorts of things.

Now (November 2023) the enamel is really starting to flake off (it started flaking off a couple years ago). I use it a lot, and I don't consider it even remotely an "heirloom" Dutch oven. In fact, I'm shopping for the replacement right now.

I have a 6 quart one, and it's perfect for exactly this type of thing. Brown meat and cook veggies on the stovetop, put into oven to finish. And it's nice and deep for stews and chili and whatever.

I wouldn't buy a lodge anything,

Prime Day mostly sucked but I nabbed a 6 quart lodge enameled dutch oven for $50, normally $90, so there's that. Based Bezos.

My SO bought me a 4.5 quart enameled [Lodge dutch oven](https://shop.lodgemfg.com/dutch-ovens-and-casseroles/4-6-qt-dutch-ovens.asp), mostly because I wanted to try bread baking. I made a really [good loaf](https://blog.kingarthurflour.com/2017/02/21/bread-baking-dutch-oven/) the other day, it was delicious and easy.

For something like this, I’ve found my Lodge 6 qt enamel Dutch oven has served me well, and it’s not overly expensive.

Just get one. It's totally worth it. If you cook soups, stews or braise meats you can use them for that too. Multipurpose, baby! I use mine all the time.

Lodge 6-quart enameled Dutch oven is a must. I’ve had one for 4 years and use it weekly. It’s a great brand, I don’t see why anyone would buy a more expensive brand unless you you just had money

I'm very happy with my enameled Lodge 6quart. It's more affordable than some of the premium brands like Le Creuset or Staub.

I've cooked with dutch ovens like [this](http://www.amazon.com/Le-Creuset-Signature-Enameled-Cast-Iron/dp/B0076NOGPY) and [this](http://www.amazon.com/Lodge-EC6D43-Enameled-Island-6-Quart/dp/B000N501BK) and there is very little difference other than the price tag.

I've been using one for a few years now with zero issues. I use an 8 quart Lodge for camping and also have no issues. The enameled doesn't even require seasoning. My temps are always accurate.

I have a big 6-7 quart lodge dutch oven that has become my go-to for pretty much everything. All cast iron works with induction. It’s like $60 on Amazon and will last forever if you treat it right.

Now I make those pasta dishes in a 4.5 quart Lodge enameled dutch oven

Lodge Logic makes a great dutch oven that is perfectly fine for about a third of the cost. I own one, it's great. You don't need name brands to make good food.

I purchased a lodge enameled 6 quart Dutch oven last year and I use it for damn near everything. Soup, bread, caramel, sauces, roasting, braising, etc.
