In owners' own words

The terrible black levels ruin everything - but the 3D and software and sound are great. I'll be returning it because of those awful black levels

that front moving cover is just another bit to break

I was thoroughly disappointed in the contrast levels he tested on this device.

I have an Xgimi Horizon Ultra with 2300 ISO lumens and the black level is pretty terrible
hhk85 on Reddit
I was going to buy the xgimi but contrast is a deal breaker for me. Back to the drawing board.
@gufiaito69able on YouTube
The issue xgimi not being able to display 4K and Dolby vision with Netflix stops me from fully considering it as my first choice.
@RodUrdaneta-yy7si on YouTube
I purchased the xgimi horizon ultra, I had to return it within a week the contrast SUCKS!
@luchozaga94 on YouTube
For the price it cost it should have a 4K Blu-ray drive built into it, Forget streaming apps if you want top quality you need physical media.

I've had the Xgimi Horizon Ultra for 9 months and just had this same problem now, except my white spot is more central. Time to send it back D:

Setup quirks & things to watch for

Not complaints — practical notes from owners that didn't affect the score.

game mode is disabled when keystone is being used, so this may not be a good choice for gamers unless they can place the projector in the ideal location for their room
donaldkwong on Reddit
trying to find out how good the keystone correction is with a off-center placement as my living room space can't accommodate a direct center long throw placement
Cheap-Assist-3115 on Reddit
It is indeed capped at 100 mbps which is technically sufficient for even high res streaming. I was just surprised by this situation.
fishbone0077 on Reddit
I ended up just getting an Apple TV 4K, worth it for the Dolby Vision support alone. No issues with Netflix or anything else.
Porespellar on Reddit
the main difference with the "movie" preset compared to "custom" is that the sharpening is too high for my taste in "Movie"
EverydayGetaway on AVS Forum
the ultra is not very power hungry, but it’s just strange it drains (much) more at minimum brightness than at max.
Sentenza89 on Reddit
That is the biggest challenge with the XHU is the native contrast.
Rob79 on AVS Forum
It was a real duel between the Hisense C1 and the Horizon Ultra
