The main gripes are a dated interface, the occasional finicky or bad unit, and some quirks in temperature and humidity reporting.

Owners praise the Ecobee Premium for its premium feel, large display, deep HVAC customization, and solid HomeKit and Home Assistant integration, and many report lower energy bills. The most common gripes are over-aggressive automation that people end up turning off, onboard temperature readings that run off by several degrees, and quirky heat-pump or dual-fuel staging. Expect a learning curve, and don't lean on the air-quality sensor for accurate CO2.

The Enhanced is a capable, budget-friendly pick that gives you detailed HVAC runtime data and plays nicely with HomeKit and Home Assistant for roughly $60 less than the Premium. But owners repeatedly knock the clunky slider and dated interface that make dialing in a temperature take several tries, along with readings that don't agree across the thermostat, app, and HomeKit and a fan control awkwardly tied to the system. It also skips the room sensor you'd get with the Premium and trips up on some hot-water and accessory wiring setups.

Owners are split on the 4th Gen Nest: many find it reliable, easy to use, and a worthwhile upgrade thanks to Matter support and better scheduling control. The most common complaint by far is the dim display, which has no brightness adjustment and can be hard to read in bright rooms. Others flag the price, occasional programming headaches, and reliance on the Google ecosystem.

Owners like the Google Nest Thermostat's mirror look, low price, and app-based scheduling that can trim energy bills, but the experience is dragged down by a heavy stream of Wi-Fi reliability complaints, with many units disconnecting from the network or refusing to reconnect, frequently within the first year or two. Add in missing room-sensor and Home/Away features compared to the Learning model, common HVAC and C-wire compatibility headaches, and frustrating support, and a large share of owners would not buy it again.
