In owners' own words

I know the lighting sucks

Temp issues, excess white spectrum leading to algae issues. Weak blues, dont do justice to the coral.

With the BioCube’s there is a little bit of space between the light and the back chambers that they can jump into. I’ve lost a few fish like this until I bought a guard.
Big_Fish_Guy on Reddit
Outdated line of tanks ....didn't care for them even back then when they were introduced to the hobby

mine is growing so much algae no matter the water changes or what it’s been going crazy hahah
@scottwoodfin707 on YouTube
people tend to dump as much money into biocube upgrades as the biocube costs then still be frustrated with them in my experience unless you have a reason to specifically want one.

I had onenof these tanks and it must be the lights because i always had red slime algae, hair algae and diatoms and dinoflagulants i sold the tank

I use the stock LED lighting. My system is 13 months in. I have been unsuccessful in keeping even hardy SPS like Birdsnest and montipora digita.
I hate the stock filter set up. It actually seems there are better hang on back filters that the stock biocube set up.

biocube is equivalent with the fishbowl in freshwater. not worth it, just loose your enthusiasm with this

my stock PC ballasts blew like a week before that in my biocube hood
brannock16 on Reddit
the light ballast caught on fire and almost killed him and his dog

Setup quirks & things to watch for

Not complaints — practical notes from owners that didn't affect the score.

I started with 1 Hydor Koralia Nano 425 head and ended up getting a second one for additional flow. I was much much happier once I got the second one. Had some dead/low flow spots when I tried just 1 that were annoying me.

I have read in so many places that Biocubes are no good for breeding shrimp because of the built in filtration system. Well... I got a little creative and found a material to act as a pre-filter of sorts.

Re-adjusted protein skimmer (cheap coralife skimmer) to hopefully improve performance.
