Most common complaints

In owners' own words

I purchased an SLX 150, and the casting distance was subpar. The overall control and stability of the brakes and spool tensioner felt inconsistent and unreliable.

Compared to the shimano slx and ark gravity 3 I have, it’s blows them away. The mag braking is wonderful

I do have one Shimano SLX - and it’s my least favorite. Ordered two - one was broken first trip out.

I love my Revo4x reels. I think they are a much better reel than the Shimano SLX.

My only complaint is it got geary feeling after extended use. And I had two of them , a slx and a slx xt. My Fuego ct , is still going strong.

I sold my SLX XT because at the time it was all plastic and i didn't find it to be a particularly great caster.

Not the reel I'd get for punching mats. The one I had got geary in a short amount of time.

Setup quirks & things to watch for

Not complaints — practical notes from owners that didn't affect the score.

I honestly don't notice any difference between it and my Shimano SLX.

I picked up a Shimano SLX and put it on a Shimano convergence rod. I spooled it with Yo-zuri hybrid 12lb. First time out over memorial day I thought I knew good technique to work on but backlash was a bitch.

I have a Shimano SLX and a 13 Fishing Concept C as well as several Abu reels, personallyi irefer my Abus over the others. For baitcasters really anything over the $100 price point will typically be a quality reel.

Shimano SLX HG. Just have three brakes on three off. Adjust cast control knob as needed. You just have to practice.

Shimano SLX XT. I have it set to 1 with no lateral movement from my spool. I use my thumb to do all my work for me.

A fluke set up with a Shimano SLX baitcaster reel, medium 6ft rod 10lbs mono.
