I use silicone utensils with mine, but it started to flake in the corners where the grill plate bumps up against the inner wall of the basket. Mine's an Instant Vortex Plus 6qt.

1) the back melted even though it was not particularly close to the wall 2) It died 14 months after we got it - just completely dead - not lights nothing - apparently a common issue
