Kindle Colorsoft

Based on 40 comments across 1 community
TL;DR
Owners are genuinely split on the Colorsoft: those who read comics, graphic novels, and magazines tend to love seeing them in color on a fast, responsive screen, while plain-text readers often feel the premium price isn't worth it over a Paperwhite. The biggest sore point is a yellow tint or band along the bottom of the screen that affected many early units, alongside scattered quality-control issues like dead pixels, prompting a fair number of returns.

42% of 40 verified owners recommend the Kindle Colorsoft.

I returned the Colorsoft for the Kobo Libra Color. I'm really glad I did

the Colorsoft's are better with the color, and Scribe Colorsoft is better with both that and BW content. They have managed to make a better implementation of Kaleido

I’ve been pretty happy to not have the yellow at the bottom and it mostly works OK except for the screen reader. When I try to activate that, it just freezes up.

The yellow band isn’t really noticeable on mine but once it was pointed out I can now see it, but it hasn’t affected my reading

day 3 with my Colorsoft – still loving the device and the experience of using it. It has essentially a subtle tinge of yellow at the bottom, that I really no longer notice unless I'm intentionally looking for it.

I had a bad experience with the new Amazon kindle colorsoft

Putting warmth all the way up for 5 minutes worked for me. I don’t see the yellow band anymore at the bottom.

the screen door effect is less pronounced on it than it was on the Kobo one that I also have. I actually don’t even notice it anymore

So I'm strongly considering returning my Colorsoft

Personally I don't think the experience is all that bad, you just need to adjust your expectations.

I love my colorsoft! I have KU and all the magazines are super worth it. I love seeing the colors on it. And i read a lot with it.

Still returning mine due to the 5 stuck pixels and the fact that dark mode (which isn’t really dark mode, you just choose black page) is incredibly ugly since it blasts the backlight.

you can change the Color Style between ‘Standard’ and ‘Vivid’ and that also makes a difference

the device is so expensive at $280 for an eReader, you want it to be perfect when it arrives at your doorstep at that price

Reddit▲ recommend

I read text novels on the Colorsoft with no issue; the filter isn't noticeable unless you're specifically looking for it.

The color did look nice. However, I figured that the yellow line will end up annoying me, so decided to send it back

The yellow part does not bother me that much. But still did not see much value

I got the colorsoft for my bday and I notice it is faster than the kindle paperwhite 11th generation

Reddit— neutral

my device doesn't seem to really have the yellow issue

Reddit▲ recommend

I got mine Nov 1st and it prompted me to do a software update during set up. Thankfully no issues

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

the device had a yellow stripe at the bottom (like many people’s colorsofts here) and there is no “true” dark mode

Reddit▲ recommend

the Kindle is more crisp & sharp for reading in black & white. I LOVE seeing my books in color!

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

Had my first one that had the yellow bar and they sent a replacement that would turn on, but not start up at all.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

the screen is really dark for some reason + yellow band and the text feels blurry with a movie-like grain to it
