Audio-Technica ATH-M50x

Based on 303 comments across 6 communities
TL;DR
Durable, detailed studio staple that holds up for years, but the bass is heavy enough to muddy the mids and the treble runs harsh, and the tight clamp plus stock pads make long sessions uncomfortable for many.

53% of 303 verified owners recommend the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x.

I can absolutely recommend these, even today.

They still serve me well after like 8 years. I no longer use them for music but for gaming when my house is a bit noisy. They isolate like a champ and sound pretty decent with some EQ. But yeah there's better options out there.

Gosh dang it I should've seen this before I bought mine, this is very accurate

Just got these in too, love the detachable cable.

The M50x has none of these problems: It's incredibly easy-wearing and consistent, with bass that is far less fussy to whether or not you achieve a perfect seal.

High frequencies are really in your face, biting

They are a great, and I mean GREAT budget option, but their longevity is not up to my standards.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

The m50x seems to have an annoying boost around 2k that makes everything sounds harsh.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I can agree to the pain aspect at high volume, my ears was beeping like I went deaf

YouTube▲ recommend

It’s good because it is fairly detailed, durable version of a typical cheap consumer headphone.

I had one for many many years, but ended up with the classic broken hinge that seems very common to this model.

I rocked the M50Xs for years, switched to DT 770s and never looked back. Loved mine for years, but after switching away from them I can definitely admit that I was heavily influenced by the fact that I saw so many people using them, rather than judging them objectively for what they were.

The right ear in my pair just went today after 9 years, I bought another pair without a second thought.

now after 2 years of use i must say that those are called monitors for reason. And i want them for play games and listen for music.

The m50x taught me not to listen to this sub and make my own opinion. Easily my biggest regret when it comes to headphone. They sounded okay at best and really uncomfortable on my head.

They can be beat up and somewhat abused and in my years of owning them I have never once regretted owning them.

I found the sound much clearer on 990 Pro vs. ATH M50x. I never even reverence with the M50x any more as everything just sounds so muted.

Well its 2020 and I'm still using them, no issues at all.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I have the ATH M50x as well, and frankly, I find them to be crap for listening. I know they’re generally regarded as great value with a flat response, but they’re too clinical in my opinion.

I specifically don't use my ath-m50x for searching tracks, because I have the feeling, that a good bassline won't come through in these.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I have a normal man-sized head and I have the exact same problem with the M50x. I find the Fiio FT1 and Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro much, much more comfortable.

had these for almost 6 years now and ive been using them daily a lot, only swapped the pads once and they still work like brand new, literally built like the tank and they still sound absolutely amazing

They aren't really top tier quality but is like owning a very good pair of consumer headphones.
