“The long term durability of these headphones seems to really depend on the climate where you live. When I moved to Florida the humidity and/or heat really caused them to start deteriorating fast.”
“i'd say go for the Beyerdynamics since their only drawback is their harsh upper register of the frequency and nothing else. For the money, you can't beat them!”
“I would say skip Beyerdynamic line up speaking as owner of DT 880 pro and upgraded to DT 1990 Pro, the headphones are built like a tank except for 1 part the plastic hinge that controls the headband size adjustment”
“The headphones have held up amazing in the 3 years I've had them and I've even dropped them a few times too, only need to buy some new pads at some point.”
“My experience with the DT770s is pretty mediocre as well. Overall I find them great for my use case (Closed Back PC Gaming) but I personally wouldn't buy them to listen to music with them.”
“I found the DT 770 to have a wider, more detailed sound compared to the 700 Pro X. Instrument seperation is better, everything just sounds more layered.”
“They did receive the driver update, but the driver update has been a good thing in my opinion - unchanged sound, less points of failure at the connections.”
“Personally, listening to a song on the 770s felt like sitting in an office and watching an inkjet printer print out the notation for said song.”
“I got the DT 770 pro 80 ohms, and I took the ear muffs off to wash, and then the plastic broke and now one of of the muffs is permanently off.”
“I 100% will always recommend a good quality pair of studio headphones over a headset for that smooth clear audio Get the DT 770 pro / sennheisers!”
“Not sure about the sound but found the pads to be weirdly uncomfortable, especially when everyone said these are some of the most comfortable cans around.”
“They're still the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, but I feel like 7 months of breaking in the weird-feeling stock pads hasn't really helped and they still feel like they have crumpled paper inside.”
“Beyerdynamic is a pretty amazing company. Yeah their signature sound may not be for everyone. But they still make most of their products in Germany and they're still amazing. Definitely my favourite headphone company.”
“The 80 and 250 ohm I've heard sounded like every critique open back believers have against closed backs distilled into one sound signature.”
“I like my 92's enough that I'm not opposed to another set of AKG's, and may go that route, but I kinda wanted to "branch out" a bit.”
“I friggin hated them when I first put them on. They were Horribly uncomfortable for me, and the treble was murder on my ears.”
“They are good for music listening and is surprisingly decent for gaming too, as they have quite a wide soundstage for a closed-back headphone.”
“The plastic parts where the cable goes into the headstrap (where your added padding starts on either side) broke on mine :/”
“I use the DT 770 pro to mix music and listen to music and the spacial ability of these headphones is crazy good. Really a game changer.”
“They make a lot bum bum, were quite sibilant with my equipment and voices were quite faint, due to the bath tub sounding.”
“They lack bass, the highs sizzle, and the earpads compress down to nothing until the driver is right up against your ear.”
“The dt770 actually can sound good with the right pads and proper tuning, if you are willing to chase after the sound you like.”
“It's not bad considering the horror stories I had heard about Beyer headphones and harsh, sibilant treble.”

“Can anyone recommend a decent amp to drive these? Never fiddled with amps/dacs but I’d be interested in giving it a shot if there’s something that performs reasonably for under $100”
“I thought the 770/880/990s all have the same components and that the only difference with 990s is the open back design. Can you elaborate a little bit on the difference you hear?”
“New DT 770 are different headphones compared to the old ones. Therefore different sound tuning and signature. It got nothing to do with "warming them" or "getting used to them".”
“I know this is a 5 month old thread but, how do I identify if the plastic cups are different? something to look for? Also, do they ship the new "fixed" ones in the same all black box?”
“I used the article and had determined I had the new design but I can't be disappointed because I've never heard the old style. Should I buy another pair? Do they sound that much better?”
“I've never used any Beyerdynamic headphones before. I just looked them up on amazon and was shocked at the price. I figured they'd be much more expensive. General consensus on this brand?”
“On the go, a shorter cable would be nice, and at home, I'd like for it to be able to go from my receiver across to the couch, which requires like a 5 meter cable to be really comfortable.”
“I don't really know anything about Audio and the build in Audio of my Motherboard ( Maximus V extreme) isn't cutting it. I hope some of you can help me, thanks in advance.”
“I'm really not interested in buying an amp for $160 headphones, I went with the 80ohm version because supposedly "any receiver" should be "more than enough" to power them”
“Open headphones - NOT FOR PORN Closed headphones - porn okay Sidenote I have the 250 ohms version of this and it picks up the am freq of a spanish radio tower a mile away”
“I just bought a pair to use at work. How can you identify whether you have a bad model or a good one? I might send them back if they are a bad model and wait a bit longer to buy another pair.”
“This is on the Topping DX5 II PEQ settings. Preamp - -5.5 250 hz low shelf filter +10db 2700 hz peaking +1.5 db 5900 hz peaking +1.0 db 8300 hz high self filter -2.5 db”
“Unless you have the world's shittiest motherboard an amp is going to be a total waste of money with these. I have the same headphones and it's the exact same out of my phone and out of a DAC/Amp”
“For your average guy who already likes the would of the dt770 80ohm, which pads would you recommend? I'm kind of interested in leather pads. I have heard that the Mr. Speakers are a good option?”
“Well, that's an encouraging story. Glad that they account for user feedback (and any companies should). Mind if I ask, if I am looking to get a 770, how can I tell it is not the 2017-2018 model?”
“Compared to what? I'd you're coming from BT cans, they massively inflate the bass and your expectations are of course not being met. You can dial in some bass, but they will never be basshead cans.”
“How do these compare to Sennheiser Momentum 2.0's?(non-wireless) I currently have Sennheiser 598s that I bought 9 years ago(they have been great) and then my HyperX Revovler'sA(bought 5 years ago).”
“According to Oratory, the variation between same units is greater than the difference you will notice going from a resistance to another, just saying...”
“Ha, funny seeing this thread and the responses. I've had mine since like 2013 ish? And back then the almost universal recommendation was the 250s sounded better, whereas most here are recommending the 80 now.”
“That could be the reason why the bass and sub weren't as prevalent before, they probably leaked through or something. It feels weird hearing every little fiddle when moving the cable, and hearing my songs wrong.”
“Set em down for a bit and pick them back up later. Switch between the two pretty often to adjust yourself to listening to different headphone sound signatures. Eventually it’ll help you appreciate their strengths”
“what exactly is the difference between the normal models, pro models and X models? is X just the pro version but 10 year anniversary or something?”
“That's fucking amazing! For you because you were actually right, and for Beyerdynamic for admitting it and being willing to do something about it!”
“How does this one compare to the dt 990 pro or the hd 58x? Will it be a noticeable difference to consider it a different flavors of sound for me?”
