Garmin Forerunner 970

Scored on 75 verified owner verdicts, from 586 comments read across 4 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly love how light, slim, and comfortable the Forerunner 970 is, calling it essentially a Fenix in a far more wearable package with a bright display and strong everyday battery life. The main complaints center on ghost touches and an oversensitive touchscreen, plus reports of sudden battery drain and occasional reboots mid-workout. The steep price is the other recurring gripe, though most owners still feel it's worth it.

68% of 75 verified owners recommend the Garmin Forerunner 970, based on real owner verdicts aggregated from Reddit, enthusiast forums, and YouTube.

Garmin overpriced the 970.

I just upgraded from the 935 to the 970 and I am very happy with this decision!

My 965 still has a better battery then the 970

that price is way too steep

The 970 is soooo bright, I have it on the lowest setting and it still looks like a beacon compared to my 955.

Can't believe they still didn't add more brightness settings a year later!

My biggest problem with Garmin is the pricing, offering few improvements and buggy software.

I'm thinking about returning the 970 because it's too bright

still doesnt have cellular

YouTube▲ recommend

I ultimately went with the 970 because of the sapphire glass, brighter screen, longer software update support, and the flashlight function

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

It's too bright even at the lowest setting and drains the battery more.

this will be super helpful during showers and rainy activities

I use FR970 with AOD off, satellites only during walk/run - it gives me up to 5 days, no way you could have some training hours with GPS daily and get those 15 days.

I chose the Forerunner 970 and haven't regretted it for a second

I think the design is very … outdated

I have it and it is a good watch. Maybe not the best but difinitely a top player in the league. My only complain is the price.

I have the 970 currently along with the HRM 600 and I’ve just been really underwhelmed by it. I also have had an open ticket with Garmin support for over three weeks with no solution in sight.

I have the 970. Things they don’t tell you. This bright as the Apple Watch 10.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

970 battery life is terrible. Also, the screen is too bright indoors even on the lowest dim setting. I returned it and just bought an Enduro 3.

Garmin Forums▼ don’t recommend

Ghost touches all the time, always after I pressed START button. Some told me it's a firmware bug but i think it's hardware malfunction.
