TL;DR
Dirac Live room correction and strong feature set make this a value standout owners praise, but HDMI handshake and board failures recur and Dirac can introduce an audible hiss.

I have exactly the same issue with the hiss when Dirac is turned on on my RZ50. I had it with my previous B&W speakers and now also with my new Canton speakers.

After dialing in my AVR (Onkyo TX-RZ50) and tweaking their placement, I was relatively blown away by how much fuller, richer, and deeper the sound was.

I lean towards the onkyo. I run a 5.1.4 system and I think DIRAC tuning has a better impact and sounds better. It was definitely a bigger P.I.T.A. to calibrate but well worth it.

The RZ50 only supports a **single** sub output, meaning DIRAC can't optimize multiple subs even if you paid for the subwoofer license (DLBC).

I have had my Onkyo TXRZ50 for a week and a half now and ZERO issues/resets. DIRAC is the real deal and FAR better than Audyssey.

Had bad experience with onkyo tx-rz50. I received it with one height speaker producing static sound and few months later it stopped working. Their support is bad

Sorry but I have ptsd from my old onkyo rz50 , everyday there was something new wrong with it an I had to replace it a few times before just switching to Denon!

The tx-rz50 is by far in a class of its own for the price. So far mine has been great.

the Onkyo RZ50 does a good job with upscaling video from another source

The RZ50 is going back. Kept having issues with the audio dropping while watching movies/TV. And IMO it sounded quite a bit worse after Dirac than without it.

I just got my Onkyo TX-RZ50 as well. Dirac didn't work wired for me.

I have the rz50 and it’s a beast and works flawlessly. And Dirac of course. All I could tell you is you won’t regret that purchase.

I just upgraded from a nr838 and the Dirac live has changed my soundstage tona whole new level.

I have an RZ50 and I have mixed feelings about it. I think the DSP in this thing is just not quite up to the task of Dirac. I have found that if Dirac has to make more than a 3db adjustment or so, I seem to lose fidelity. I often find myself preferring Dirac turned off since I get more fine detail in my music.

I bought the Onkyo RZ50 a few weeks ago and returned it. I had a Marantz 7011 and now a yamaha a8a. The onkyo sounded terrible compared to my yamaha.

I have the RZ50 and love it. Dirac is great, 4k120 is great, I’m running 7.1.4 with external amp on 12v trigger. It was like $500 cheaper than Denon x3800h. The only thing I wish it had was independent sub outs.

if you turn on Dirac, with or without Base Control, or Base Management, there is a horribly audible hiss which becomes straining over an extended period of time if you are watching a movie. For me, that is a deal breaker.

Two things I don't like, the height, it is HUGE, and the color of the front display. My Denon display was much nicer. Other than that, perfect!

my RZ50 HDMI board failed with less than 50 hours of use on it. Amazon is refunding the purchase. The receiver was really nice till this.

the RZ50 is what runs my main system because subjective sound likes aside, the RZ50 is much better in every other way than the Yamaha . Controls, configuration, channels and Dirac . That doesn't even cover the hdmi 2.1 firmware fiasco that Yamaha is struggling with.

I DIY’d a system consisting of the RZ50 and RP II speakers and have greatly enjoyed it.

I've had my RZ50 for about 3 years now and I've never heard it make noise.

I hate my rz50 for all the handshaking issues I have. I need to have weird work around behaviors in order to not brick the image

The DRX 3.4 could not hack it - but the sound cleaned up once I removed the L & R front channels from it (including C)... the amps are fine, but the power supply runs out of current. Running with external power amps, the sound quality was on a par with the older beasts...
