“Not having two independent subwoofer outputs is definitely a non-small thing this unit gets wrong”

Affiliate blogs here say 100% recommend, while the owner-based score is 61%. They earn a commission on every sale — so we show them for transparency but never let them move the score.

“Not having two independent subwoofer outputs is definitely a non-small thing this unit gets wrong”
“I did have to bring it to be repaired 2 times, under warranty, did have to drive over an hour each way NOT FUN”
“1 month of ownership i can confirm this review to be spot on”
“After dialing in my AVR (Onkyo TX-RZ50) and tweaking their placement, I was relatively blown away by how much fuller, richer, and deeper the sound was.”
“I lean towards the onkyo. I run a 5.1.4 system and I think DIRAC tuning has a better impact and sounds better. It was definitely a bigger P.I.T.A. to calibrate but well worth it.”
“I just wish it had balanced outputs to maximize the Emotiva amp I’m getting.”
“The built in Dirac has already made a big difference in my 7.1.4 Atmos setup”
“the Onkyo RZ50 does a good job with upscaling video from another source”
“Onkyo’s removal of InteliVolume and dynamic volume left me so disappointed with this receiver”
“por el precio la calidad de construccion deja mucho que desear”
“I have an RZ50 and I have mixed feelings about it. I think the DSP in this thing is just not quite up to the task of Dirac. I have found that if Dirac has to make more than a 3db adjustment or so, I seem to lose fidelity. I often find myself preferring Dirac turned off since I get more fine detail in my music.”
“I think it's incredibly good”
“The only issue I have had recently is the remote stops working. Not sure if this is due to a recent firmware update but I just use the app to control the receiver”
“This receiver is BEAST!! Best receiver l have ever owned.”
“I have exactly the same issue with the hiss when Dirac is turned on on my RZ50. I had it with my previous B&W speakers and now also with my new Canton speakers.”
“I am so happy”
“I'm really enjoying my RZ50. The one thing that's bothering me about it over the Denon it replaced is that the TV can't sync without turning it on and off a couple times. With the Denon it always just worked.”
“Had bad experience with onkyo tx-rz50. I received it with one height speaker producing static sound and few months later it stopped working. Their support is bad”
“I have had my Onkyo TXRZ50 for a week and a half now and ZERO issues/resets. DIRAC is the real deal and FAR better than Audyssey.”
“Sorry but I have ptsd from my old onkyo rz50 , everyday there was something new wrong with it an I had to replace it a few times before just switching to Denon!”
“Two things I don't like, the height, it is HUGE, and the color of the front display. My Denon display was much nicer. Other than that, perfect!”
“The RZ50 is going back. Kept having issues with the audio dropping while watching movies/TV. And IMO it sounded quite a bit worse after Dirac than without it.”
“The tx-rz50 is by far in a class of its own for the price. So far mine has been great.”
“I like the Dirac Live, I use the pc app for calibration. It's done wonders for this odd room. Aside from the DTS-HD thing, I like the AVR.”
Practical notes owners raise — setup, quirks, and issues to watch for. They don't say whether the person likes the product, so they're not counted in the score, but they inform the pros, cons, and who it's for.
“The RZ50 only supports a **single** sub output, meaning DIRAC can't optimize multiple subs even if you paid for the subwoofer license (DLBC).”
“I just got my Onkyo TX-RZ50 as well. Dirac didn't work wired for me.”
“i just use the rz 50 for processing for now until the new onkyo processor comes out or I get an anthem avm 70”
“I've seen this a couple times since adding the RZ50 to my HDMI pipeline... Some picture drops”
“RZ50 owner here that would love to see sound format prominently displayed instead of source”
“The DRX 3.4 could not hack it - but the sound cleaned up once I removed the L & R front channels from it (including C)... the amps are fine, but the power supply runs out of current. Running with external power amps, the sound quality was on a par with the older beasts...”
“I also had an RZ50 before the X6800H, but I didn't have any noise issues”
“Only turn on AVR when needed, and CEC works just fine”
“as Onkyo's tend to run hot”
