Dyson V8

Based on 35 comments across 1 community
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly still recommend the V8 as a light, simple, reliable cordless vacuum that holds up for years and is a better value than newer, fussier Dysons. The main gripe is battery wear after a couple of years, with replacements sometimes hard to source out of warranty. It's best suited to quick cleans and hard floors rather than heavy deep-carpet work.

63% of 35 verified owners recommend the Dyson V8.

my 3 year old V8 needed a battery and their customer service just said sorry we no longer make extra to sell, so I'd need to buy a whole new vacuum. Ended up getting a 3rd party battery on Amazon.

I use the V8 on hard floors because I find the soft roller head better for that purpose. Spare parts and filters are cheaper on the Dyson.

Dyson V8 is your best bet, will work much better than the shark, and its a pretty good deal, its better than the later counterparts but there are better cordless vacuums in general

We had a Dyson V8 Animal that lost suction power pretty badly over the course of about 2 years. We got it serviced and did everything they recommended but it's just a useless piece of crap. Ended up going back to a plug in Miele.

I had a V8 before and if I compare just the vacuum function, it’s basically the same. The V12 is little bit lighter and more comfortable to hold and use since no need to keep pressing the button. But the same suction power.

What I liked about the Dyson V8: its light weight, the flexibility of the head joint — which adapts well to my movements and around obstacles — and how easy it is to empty the dustbin.

My V8 been working for almost 10 years. But no Dyson is not a gold standard. The customer service is not very good unless you go in person to a store and they are always out of accessories. Everything is always out of stock.

we have the v8 absolute, its great. my MIL got the v10 and it's no good, too bulky and a pain to empty. after a few years i have had to replace the battery pack though at about $100 nzd

The V8 isn't that efficient unfortunately. You need to run it on max mode too often, which significantly reduces the battery life. Using it for light cleaning on hard floors on normal mode, the battery typically lasts 10 years if you store it indoors.

I have tested a ton of the lower vacuums (v7, v8, ,v10) and was very unhappy with them.

I recently purchased replacement batteries for both my V7 and V8 direct from Dyson. Directly from their retail website.

I've had my V8 animal for 2 years. Cleaned it twice, still doing great. I have 2 cats (super shedders) 1,000 Sq ft condo. I don't think it'll last 50 years, but I don't see it failing any time soon.

I bought a V8 several years ago, and the range is only about 60% left.

I LOVE our V8 Animal. We bought it through the outlet last year and use it at least daily (2 cats, 2 birds in a small space). Bring cordless makes it SO handy.

My V8 takes 18V Makita batteries with a $20 adapter from Amazon. Not sure they make adapters for models past V8.

My dyson v8 battery died after i recall 2 years. But they give me free repair even though out of warranty.

We just went to a V8 because of having to replace multiple machines because of this. The V8 uses an older board and so I am hoping it doesn’t have this issue

We have a Dyson V8, but recently moved and got a Shark PowerDetect and on balance the Shark is a better product that definitely feels more solidly built. The one thing that I’ll give the Dyson, though, is the it’s a lot lighter than the Shark, which makes extended cleaning sessions a bit easier.

Got the V8 absolute for 250 new from Dyson with a bunch of extra accessories. Worth it as it comes with both carpet head and hardwood head.

I’ve had a v8 Animal since 2016. Only had to replace the battery. A battery failure isn’t necessarily a reason Dyson are bad as rechargeable batteries will fail over time. You can replace the battery for 30 quid off Amazon.

Replace the battery. Did the same for my V8

The only problem with cordless Dyson is you have to replace the battery periodically since it gets really worn after a couple years, but outside of that nothing else degraded, just needed some cleaning. I think I have the v8

It works so much better than my last cheap stick vac. I love the anti-hair wrap. I haven’t had to remove a single strand of hair.

I have a v8 for 5 years and still going strong. I think the newer ones where the air passes straight thru has a lot more issues.
