Dyson V16 Piston Animal

Scored on 25 verified owner verdicts, from 219 comments read across 5 communities
TL;DR
A polarizing redesign: some owners like the anti-tangle head and large compacting bin, but many report the new floorhead performs poorly on hard floors and the redesigned bin clogs the filter and triggers airway-blocked errors.

20% of 25 verified owners recommend the Dyson V16 Piston Animal, based on real owner verdicts aggregated from Reddit, enthusiast forums, and YouTube.

I'd mention the new head shape that makes cleaning walls or 90 degree corners harder.

We bought the V16 Piston, but due to several issues it didn’t convince us, so we returned it and got the V15 Detect instead

the V16 in boost performs better in real-world situations than the gen5

This ones head is junk

I happily own a v16 having upgraded from the v6. If the only downside is slightly less performance than the superb gen5 head then i am more than happy to live with it

I purchased the submarine one and didn’t get that accessory

Perfect vacuum cleaner this is

the V16 head isn't as satisfying to use on hard floors than the V15's fluffy optic head

I bought both during Boxing Week and tested it them at home and I liked the V16 personally, but with the concerns I've read online I decided to also get a 7 year warranty

her filter clogs after a week of use while mine stays clear even after a month

I’ve had it for 2-3 months now and I love it

Overall happy with the performance of the vaccum. The large bin and compression function along with the illumination function on the motorised head are both fantastic.

I returned the V16 and will stick with my gen5

The new "All floors head" is brilliant on carpet, but underperforms the fluffy roller on hard floors badly

Reddit▲ recommend

One advantage the V16 head has that the V15 head does not, is a suction strength adjuster. The red toggle there allows you to adjust suction strength based on the surface.

Reddit▲ recommend

Totally normal because the new first stage system allows you to leave the front "free" and collect everything behind or on the bottom, in this way there is no old phenomenon of grid/mesh clogging

Comparing to a v15: it feels lighter, parts and the main component, battery feels the heaviest.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I prefer the previous motorhead, leaving a line is a backward step in my opinion

Reddit— neutral

The only bad thing about it is word choice of clashing heads and price

Reddit▲ recommend

You will not be disappointed by the performance and suction of the V16.

Deep Review Lab▲ recommend

The anti-tangle design here actually works.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I disliked the larger footprint of the new combined cleaning head. It requires more diligent cleaning practices to get the same edge cleaning and pickup as the old heads.

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

the filter and interal get dust on it pretty bad on this model and the brush bar at the front leaves a line in the moddle

Redditⓘ good to know

Yeah our does the same thing, but once you use the piston part to compact it all it all goes into the same place to dump out.

Redditⓘ good to know

Mine would do this too. I find its not as exacerbated when its hair and light dust. Compressing it would then resolve it.

Redditⓘ good to know

yeah, looks like you cant compact it fully becouse it will just squize things on the bottom more.

Redditⓘ good to know

Sounds like a normal dyson motor sound to me.
