Level Lock+

Based on 132 comments across 4 communities
TL;DR
Owners are genuinely split on the Level Lock. The fans love that it looks like a plain deadbolt instead of a smart lock, keeps the original key, and unlocks with a tap of an Apple Watch or phone via HomeKey, and many say it went from flaky to rock-solid after the Matter/Thread update. The detractors run into constant connection drops, batteries that die suddenly with little warning, firmware updates that break HomeKit/HomeKey pairing, and feel it's overpriced for how often it fails when you actually need it.

39% of 132 verified owners recommend the Level Lock+.

Maybe it’s fully deserved, but I like mine (Level Touch.)

Schlage over Level Lock+, i have both, highly prefer the Schlage even with the matter update for the Level.

The issue with the lock is that is doesn't have the features in software like August does. It doesn't auto unlock seamlessly. It goes through homekit so it has to ask you are you sure you want to run this automation. Which defeats the purpose of it automatically doing it.

try dealing with Level Lock and trying to get them to send a replacement device under warranty. 3 different levels of tech support invested so far and still running through the exact same troubleshooting steps per the user’s manual. Terrible customer support!

I only have Level Lock+ so no basis for comparison but ever since the matter update I’ve been very happy with it.

Honestly, the Assure lock is still my main front door lock. If the keypad for the Level lock were improved, I'd choose the Level lock in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend the Level lock. It replaces the internal mechanism only so you can keep the original hardware and still have an automated lock. Original keys still work as well, it’s just installed inside the lock cutout. I use one in my security screen because it doesn’t accommodate any other smart lock and it works like a dream.

I bought mine even after watching the video. But my building has a number of cameras before you even get to my door. The glaring security hole might not be acceptable for everyone though.

What really doesn't work well is the motor. A common scenario for one of my family members: * try to push open door, find it's locked. Deadbolt is now pushed up against the catch. * unlock with Apple Watch * motor struggles because the deadbolt is scraping against the catch * lock gives up halfway unlocked, refuses to try again * get out the physical key

A few years ago I imported a Level Lock+ from the US as it had the tech (Apple HomeKey support) that I was looking for without looking like a smart lock (it just looks like a normal dead bolt).

I’ve also got 2 level locks for back doors and they’re good, easy to install and unobtrusive, but I do also find the BT HomeKit connection to be less reliable.

All in all very disappointed by the poor leadership and misguided product decisions of a company that otherwise has one of the best designed products in the smart home world. I won’t buy another level lock

this won’t resolve the problem for everyone, at least not for those of us who can no longer even add the level lock plus to Apple Home with our iPhones (only through iPad, which means no home key.)

buying a couple Eve matter switches with thread, that help boost the connection of the level lock to HomeKit. Since adding 2 eve locks, and updating everything to 18.4 I haven’t had a single disconnect.

I was forced to go back to the Level Lock and it's been mostly OK. Battery life isn't great and I get zero fucking warning when it dies. It just decides to die. Other than that it's been pretty reliable.

I have a few level lock + matter locks and recently one of them was suddenly not working with HomeKey. I spent 3 hours adding deleting factory resetting the lock … rinse wash repeat. Could not get it to work.

I like them now. The software experience and speed were the only issues (they were major ones though) and now they're alleviated as I don't have to use the Level Lock app and they're as speedy as I'd ever need.

I have the Level Lock + with Matter and I have had terrible connection issues. I have TP Link BE63 mesh router and many Matter enabled hubs (Apple TV 4K, HomePod minis) and it still drops off all the time.

My only complaint with the Level Lock+ (day one owner) is that the battery dies faster than I would prefer.

I have 2 Level Lock +, Matter over Thread. I’ve only had them a couple of weeks. I have a good Thread network and they have been great.

Now with v3.3, locks are falling off HomeKit constantly. The only remedy is to restart the locks repeatedly, restart the matter hub (HomePod mini), and connect to the locks repeatedly through the level app.

I also have a level lock on the front door which doesn’t get as much usage and which doesn’t drain as fast.

I have the original Level Lock and it has always been rock solid. I didn’t see any reason to upgrade to plus and home key really is irrelevant with smart locks. Mine open as I come close to the house and run my automations.

I wouldn't use a level lock. In my experience and based on feedback from clients, those are over-priced junk. I've installed a few and am not impressed.
