It hasn’t been as reliable as my old August Pro + Connect. It’s been disconnecting from Wi-Fi frequently and the original batteries had gone completely flat in less than 2 months.

My 3rd gen August works great with Google Home integration. The only issue I've ever faced is with getting auto-unlock to work with any degree of consistency

Reddit▲ recommend

Setting up notifications was a breeze. Alexa setup was a breeze. HomeKit works great. I have had zero issues and have been very impressed.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

yea its a bit of a mess. I tried setting up the gen 3 Pro with both an iphone and ipad pro, neither worked better than the other (homekit didnt work).

Reddit— neutral

I had a couple of issues connecting it to the WiFi but after a couple of minutes messing with it, i was able to get it added.

Reddit▲ recommend

One thing i love is i have it running thru z wave to my alarm panel AND HomeKit/alexa simultaneously.

I still have an August 3 Pro that I pulled out when August borked the Z-wave support 5 or 6 years ago

Reddit▲ recommend

My install experience was the exact opposite of OPs. Took maybe 15 minutes.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

The august hits most of those ticks but I already got burned on them with how bad the auto unlock worked.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I just can’t recommend them anymore and I’m actively shopping for a replacement

Reddit▲ recommend

I’ve had two of them and they have both lasted multiple years for me.

Reddit— neutral

One was fine and never gave me the issues. The other one nothing but problems.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

the app just keeps “loading/thinking” and I never get the final confirmation

Reddit▲ recommend

I have the previous gen and performance has been flawless for me.

Reddit— neutral

I have an august gen 3 that has been pretty reliable other than this

Reddit— neutral

The August lock does drain batteries quickly, but it’s still decent.

Reddit▲ recommend

but then I got the bridge and the batteries last forever

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I think that the Wifi version was just a bridge too far for the technology.

Reddit▲ recommend

The new keypad is miles over the old one for sure.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

Even without this issue, their software has always been problematic for me.

Reddit▲ recommend

Been working flawlessly ever since. Total godsend.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I had it for a few years and it's horrible. doesn't work half the times

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

The lock and its battery are dead more often than they’re working.

Reddit▲ recommend

I have not had the batteries die on me in 8 years

Practical notes owners raise — setup, quirks, and issues to watch for. They don't say whether the person likes the product, so they're not counted in the score, but they inform the pros, cons, and who it's for.

That’s really disappointing..shoot. I was really looking forward to upgrading my 2 August locks. Now I’m not so sure it’s worth it. The updates hardware sure does look slick though

Redditⓘ good to know

I thought I was just unlucky with the bridge! I had to have it within about 5 feet of the lock and facing it with direct line of sight otherwise it would flake out!

Redditⓘ good to know

A mortise lock doesn't have mounting holes for a deadbolt, you have 2 options there : you can use double sided tape to stick the lock mounting plate to the decorative lock plate (the stronger the better ) .

Redditⓘ good to know

I'd be very interested in details. I've got an Emtek mortise lock w/3" thick door, making standard automation difficult, short of replacing the door.

I connected a new August Wi-Fi Smart Lock (4th Generation) to Home Assistant today. It is working fine, but it thinks the batter level is -100%.

Redditⓘ good to know

didnt realize August is under Assa Abloy. so its kinda more about design + ecosystem rather than completely different hardware then?

Redditⓘ good to know

I have the same issue. Bottom lock I want to be able to use the August Pro Smart Lock and I’m willing to change the Mortise lock to a better one if needed. I just don’t know which one would work best with the August Pro Please help!

Redditⓘ good to know

This happens when app switches between wifi and bluetooth. Never resolved. You nedd to restart app to be able to access lock.

I recently posted on the august sub that I received a 3rd gen for Christmas but couldn't figure how to use it since the lock's tail piece wasn't removable. Turns out I have a mortise lock and most people are telling me this isn't possible.

Redditⓘ good to know

August is, basically, Assa Abloy (manufacturer of Yale). August and Yale Linus are almost the same, different shape.

Redditⓘ good to know

Support told me the bridge didn’t work on the WiFi version. I could never get it to pair so not sure how you did.

Redditⓘ good to know

What is the model of the battery? Is it a cr123? That greatly changes the equation if it’s 3 months on those

Redditⓘ good to know

I haven't had that problem. Have you tried recalibrating the lock, assuming that's an option for August?

Redditⓘ good to know

That looks really good. How did you secure it on the faceplate? I have a similar lock, but multipoint...

I'm very interested in seeing a guide for this. I have a Schlage Mortise lock and have been waiting for a decent smart lock that's compatible. The Sesame would work but I"m not a fan of look/feature sets. Here is a photo of my lock https://imgur.com/a/SIQXBtZ

Redditⓘ good to know

Perhaps. I read a couple of weeks ago that the newest August lock was way smaller and sleeker then before and ran on two watch batteries. They claimed the battery life was about 3 months (which is horrible.) I guess this is a different August lock that you have.

Redditⓘ good to know

+1. Got a cheap used bridge off eBay, and the bridge has paid for itself in battery costs easily.

Redditⓘ good to know

yeah the lock/unlock asymmetry has been a known pain point with that integration for a while, the general theory is that lock events get pushed reliably but unlock events rely on polling or a webhook that doesn't always fire cleanly through the bridge your workaround of restarting the app + locking again basically forc…
